Glass shattering. Paintings falling. People running. People falling. People dying.
May, Zac, and I soon made our way towards the back end of the house. We escaped by jumping out the kitchen window which by my surprise wasn't broken yet. I soon realized that when I jumped that I felt an awkward bump on my leg and I found my gun that I had this morning when I accidentally shot Gabe.
As we made our way to the cornfield we saw many Peachefare's jumping into trucks and cars and driving off to the Peachefare Compound. We had to act fast or we could end up like some other Peachefare's in the house lying dead!
We were looking for a car or a truck to take, but everyone was gone and the soldiers were starting to notice us. We then saw Aunt Sarah in her pickup truck with many people in the truck, sitting in the back, on the floor, yet the seat right beside Sarah was completely empty.
We all hopped in and drove off while the soldiers starting shooting at the car.
It sounded just like popcorn on a summer evening. Then the house and the soldiers disappeared as we drove of to the Compound. We knew the we would never make it by tonight, so we had to stop and pull over right in the city of Latrobe.
As Sarah got out and popped the trunk lid up it looked just like a tent. I remember being with my whole family and how we would go camping every summer, but until my father went over seas I soon realized that we wouldn't go camping anymore.
"This is so scary!" May exclaimed not excited but worried which I have never heard her talk that way before.
"May don't scream. Just let it go. I mean your parents are safe. My parents are safe. We are all safe!" Zac says all poetically like if he were Martin Luther King Jr. or Mother Teresa.
Aunt Sarah soon came back to her car seat. I could tell that she was tired. I mean how would you feel if your housing site got attacked, you had to run to your car to escape, grab a bunch of people, and drag them all into your car and drive for about an hour or two.
We then gathered all of our money that we had and we put it together to buy a bigger vehicle. It was an old bus that I remember from my past. It was the old Pittsburgh Public Elementary School Bus!
I mean it was huge and had room for us to sleep, so we just took our chances.
I remember Aunt Sarah opening up the bus doors that creaked when it opened. She had to get a repairman at eleven o'clock at night to fix it and then his wife had to come and patch up old holes in the seats. This process took about an hour till they were finished.
As we made our way onto the bus, I felt a cold shiver down my spine. How cold has it been outside? So we all packed onto the bus. I grabbed a seat right in the middle. May picked a seat across from me and Zac picked a seat behind May. We were all ready to go with our blankets that the repairman and his wife brought us and the old pillows from their house to.
Then another siren went off and everyone from the repair shop ran onto the bus with their stuff and their families and we went off again.
We didn't want anyone to die like this morning when the soldiers attacked us. The repair shop workers and their families all filed into seats. Two of them were in front of us and one was behind me.
I kind of felt safe with them on the bus, because I knew that people with weapons like wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, and nails were with us.
That was about all I remembered that night, because I wanted a lot of sleep for the early morning ahead of me.
