Everything was back to normal within a couple of days and Dmitri refused to bring up anything else about his struggles, despite me wanting to help in whatever way possible.
It was going to take longer than I thought to let him trust me with the dangerous side of him.
My thoughts are cut short when the door to the bathroom opens and Dmitri walks to the sink, making me almost drop the shower head I was holding towards myself.
Why are you embarrassed? My wolf hisses
I ignore my wolf and try to concentrate on having my shower whilst Dmitri brushed his teeth in silence, his heated silver gaze constantly meeting mine in the mirror. Quickly shutting the shower off and wrapping myself in a big towel, I walk past my mate but his hand reaches out and catches me by my elbow, pulling me towards his chest.
"I'm getting you wet." I murmur as my wet hair brushes against his topless chest.
Dmitri answers by briefly pressing his lips against mine before pulling back, leaving me momentarily breathless.
Somebody is in a good mood.
"What's wrong, angel?" Dmitri asks.
I blink rapidly, slightly taken aback and trying to hide the expression on my face but he raises a brow, seeing right through me.
"What're you talking about?"
Dmitri sighs, narrowing his eyes on me slightly before placing his hands on my shoulders and stirring me to the front of the mirror.
"You've been biting the corner of your lip, you're eyes are strained and you tried to avoid me." He easily points out the signs.
Why did he have to be so observant?
Turning me back around, Dmitri lifts my chin so that I was looking directly up at him.
"Now tell me, what's bothering you?"
I tighten my towel around me before answering.
"I miss my brother and Micah, I want to see them." I say quietly.
There's a brief moment as Dmitri stiffens before he relaxes again but lets go of me, leaving me somewhat at a loss.
"You're not going to that pack again." He answers back in an equally quiet voice.
My brows narrow as I step away, turn around and leave the bathroom, wanting to be dressed for this oncoming...discussion.
I ignore Dmitri as he follows me out and watches me get dressed; as soon as I'm done, I turn to face him.
"What if I don't go there but they come here." I suggest calmly.
Dmitri's lips shrink into a frown. "I don't want that bastard in my territory, trying to steal my mate away."
"Micah? He's my friend, he wouldn't do such a thing." I shoot back, trying and failing to subdue my rising anger.
Dmitri was going way overboard with this and his possessive alphaness was beginning to become irritating.
"Didn't you see the way he looks at you? I fucking hate it and the only thing stopping me from crushing his skull for even laying eyes on you that way is you." My mate strides towards me until there are just inches of space between us.
I stamp down the urge to lean forward and take in his masculine scent, not wanting to detract from the problem at hand; if I show weakness now he'd just take advantage of it.
"He wasn't the one who stole me away via blackmail!" I seethe, feeling the blood roaring in my veins.
Dmitri stills and I take in a deep breath, waiting for his response but I feel a certain fear creeping up my spine as his features sharpen and he leans in until his breath brushes over my ear.
"Do you want to repeat that, Cassandra?" His voice so low that it gives me shivers.
He won't hurt us.
Listening to my wolf and trying to ignore the dangerous vibes Dmitri was giving off, I press my palms against his chest and push him back. He grabs my wrists and brings hands hands close to his mouth, his eyes darkening as he presses his lips against my palm.
"I didn't mean to scare you." He mutters an apology.
"If I say, I only want my brother over, will you agree to it?"
Dmitri stares at me for a long moment before nodding briefly.
My mouth widens into a smile and I leap up to kiss his cheek in thanks before Dmitri catches me by my waist and whispers into my ear.
"You'll be the death of me."
...
The knocking on the front door makes me look up from the medical book in front of me and I wait a moment, to check if Dmitri ot Logan would go to get it before I get up and move to answer the door.
I raise a brow in surprise when I open the door to see a Were holding a box and an envelope on top of it.
"It's for the Alpha." He explains quickly, handing the items to me before scuttling away.
Gripping the box in one arm, I close the door with the other and crease my nose when I take in the strange smell coming from the box.
"What the hell is this?" I gag.
Setting the box down, I rip open the envelope in curiosity and a small piece of parchment paper slips out bearing what looked like old fashioned script handwriting.
"I'm sure the item in the box will remind you of what once was a splendid time that became a disaster for you and I; stealing what it mine holds it repercussions Alpha Maddox"
I read over the message again, not understanding a thing before setting it to the side and going for the box, the smell intensifying as I near it.
When I lift the lid from the box, bile rises up my throat and the lid slips through my fingers; the image of my blooded, dead parents lying on the cold ground comes to mind as my eyes fall on a tiny baby, covered in blood, the blue hue of its skin giving away the fact that this child was dead and most likely ripped out judging by it's tiny size and undeveloped body parts.
It's arms were mere stubs and eyes sunken in.
I barely register the scream escaping my throat as Dmitri instantly appears by my side. He lets out a string of curses, picking up the piece of paper and reading through it's contents before looking into the box.
I heave, holding back the urge to be sick all over the floor as Dmitri scrunches the paper up and covers the box up again.
A low growl erupts from him as he bares his teeth, his eyes shining in unknown emotion.
"What the hell is going on?!" I demand when our gazes meet.
