Chapter 14: New Leg

Astrid's POV 

It had been a week. A whole week. Hiccup hasn't woken up yet. I spent all my time at the hospital. The gang knew about Hiccup and would come visit sometimes so I could leave the room to get something to eat or to shower or whatever. Stoick came pretty much everyday. Ryan had brought me a duffle bag of my clothes and some of my stuff. She brought me my homework from school everyday too. I was sitting in the chair beside Hiccup's bed holding his hand. I had my head laying on the bed and I was trying to stay awake but it wasn't working very well. I kept drifting off a bit and than waking up again. I was starting to drift off again when I heard a faint voice. 

"Astrid." I heard. I felt fingers curl around my hand and looked up. Hiccup's eyes were open and he was looking at me. He looked exhausted. 

"Hiccup!" I said sitting up. I leaned over hugging him. I felt his arms wrap around my waist. "Hiccup." I said again. I felt tears and I think he felt them too. His arms tightened around me. 

"I'm okay Astrid. I'm okay." He spoke softly to me. 

"I thought I lost you." I told him. 

"You'll never lose me. You know that." He told me. I smiled softly and pulled away looking at him. He had that smirk on his face and I leaned over and kissed him. He didn't take a second to kiss me back. We pulled apart and he wiped the tears from my cheeks. I smiled at him. I laid down beside him and cuddled up to him. 

After a while, a nurse came in and saw Hiccup awake. 

"You're awake Mr.Haddock. That's good." She said. Hiccup smiled. "Can I get you anything."

"Food and water?" He asked softly. 

"Of course." She said smiling and leaving the room. 

"I could've gotten you food and water?" I told him. He held me tight and shook his head. 

"No. I didn't want you to leave." He said. I smiled and kissed his cheek. 

"I've been here all week babe." I told him. "I'm not going anywhere." 

He smiled and kissed me. 

The nurse came back after a little bit and I helped Hiccup sit up. She put his tray of food on his table. 

"How's your leg feeling?" She asked. I widened my eyes. 

"My leg?" He asked. 

"I haven't told him yet." I said. 

"Oh." The nurse said. Hiccup moved the blanket and looked shocked. He didn't say anything for a moment. 

"Hiccup..." I said. 

"My foot....it's gone." He said softly. 

"It was crushed in the car accident you were in." The nurse told him. "It wasn't savable so they amputated your foot." 

I looked at Hiccup who was still in shock. Staring at his left leg. He sighed, and put the blankets back on him. He pulled the table to himself and started to eat. The nurse left the room and I sat in the chair beside the bed. Hiccup just ate. After he was done, I finally spoke up. 

"Hiccup, they're giving you a prosthetic." I told him. He sighed. 

"When?" He asked. 

"I'm not sure. A few days maybe." I told him. 

"Come here." He said patting the bed beside him. I sat next to him. 

"I still love you. Even without a left foot." I smiled at him. He laughed a little. I kissed his cheek.

A few days went by and Hiccup was being sent home. I helped him to the wheelchair they had for him after he managed to get dressed by himself. Stoick was outside at the front of the hospital with the car so we could meet him there. The doctor gave Hiccup some instructions and crutches as well. I had my duffle bag on my shoulder and we thanked the doctor and nurses and headed out of the room and down the hallway. We got to Stoick's car and I helped Hiccup into the car. Stoick put the wheelchair in the trunk and I sat in the back. We got to the house and I helped him back into his wheelchair and into the house. I brought him into the living room. He got up and went to the couch. 

"Hiccup...Be careful." I said watching him hop to the couch from his wheelchair. 

"I'm fine M'lady." He told me. I sighed and put my bag down. 

"Do you want anything?" I asked. 

"Just you." He said with a smirk. I raised an eyebrow. 

"Cute Haddock. Very cute." I said. 

"But no, I'm okay. Just come sit with me." He said. I smiled and sat with him on the couch, he put an arm around me and pulled me against him. I heard Stormfly and Toothless come from another room. Stormfly jumped on the couch and started licking my face.
