Chapter 26: Hospital Stay

Hope you all have had a good Christmas!! 

I'm thinking of wrapping up this story soon! Probably be 30 chapters all together! So still like 4 to write after this and knowing me they will probably be long chapters! :P

Author's POV 

The doctor led Hiccup to another room where there was a desk. It was his office. 

"Have a seat, Hiccup." the doctor said to him. Hiccup sat down. The doctor sat at his desk across from him. "I'm sorry to say this, but we weren't able to save both twins." He said.

Hiccup sighed and looked at the floor for a moment. He looked back up at the doctor. 

"How's Astrid?" Hiccup asked. 

"She'll be fine. She's still sleeping right now. You can see her after. But what happened was, the one baby was sick. The sickness it had, which we're still trying to figure out what it was, started to affect Astrid as well. Astrid's body tried fighting it and than the baby's body started fighting it back and it caused the baby to get worse, which then caused the bleeding." He explained. "The other twin is in an incubator on the delivery floor right now. We need to keep an eye on her for a while, make sure this sickness didn't get to her as well." He said. Hiccup nodded taking all of the information in. 

Once they finished up in the office the doctor led Hiccup to Astrid's room and Hiccup went and pulled the chair over beside her bed. He put the bags down and sat in the chair and held one of her hands. He rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb. After a little bit he laid his head down on the side of her bed and fell asleep.

Astrid's POV 

I felt something underneath my hand and grasped it. I started coming out of my sleep and opened my eyes a little and shut them again because of the bright light. I opened them and looked around. 

"Hiccup?" I said. 

"Astrid." I heard. I saw him come up close to my face. "How are you feeling?" 

"I'm okay." I said. Hiccup kissed my head. I smiled a little. 

"I'll be right back." Hiccup said and left the room. 

I sighed and looked around. I put my hand on my stomach realizing it wasn't big anymore and it hurt a bit. I pulled up my nightgown and saw a bandage on it and peeled it over slightly and saw stitches. I sighed. and covered it back up and pulled my nightgown down. I was sitting up in the bed when Hiccup came back with the doctor. 

The doctor explained what had happened and that I had lost one of the twins and the other was in the ICU and in an incubator. He told me he would check on me later and left the room. I looked down and felt tears fall down my face. Hiccup sat on the bed beside me. He wrapped his arms around me. I leaned against him and started to cry. Hiccup held me close.

Later that day they brought me in a wheelchair to the ICU to see my daughter. They sat me beside her incubator and I looked at her. Hiccup stood behind me. I was able to put my hand inside and touch her hand. She had a bunch of different tubes and things attached to her. I sighed. I looked at Hiccup. 

"Did you name her yet?" I asked. He shook his head. 

"No, I haven't. What do you want to name her?" He asked.  I thought for a moment. 

"Rowan Mae." I said. I looked at Hiccup. He smiled and kissed my head. 

"I love it." He said. 

I smiled. Hiccup filled out a form for the nurse with Rowan's name and information. 

After a while we went back to my room and Hiccup helped me into the bed and sat with me. He gave me a kiss and I smiled a little. He laid with me until I fell asleep.
