"Dad, you remember Gavin right?" I asked, hoping and praying there was still a human being inside of my dad that he wouldn't go crazy bat shit in front of Gavin.

"Ah yes, the young man who so easily toyed and broke my daughter's heart. Yes I remember you. Half of the reason I started to drink. Do you know what it's like, Mr. Lahar, to come home day after day to see your daughter locked in her room, crying because her best friend left her for another girl?"

"No sir I don't." Gavin said, looking at me but I wasn't able to look at him. My face was heated with embarrassment. My dad eyed the bottle in his hand and then looked back at Gavin.

"You know, you caused my daughter and our lives a lot of pain. And since I'm clearly not thinking straight, and your in my house, you seem to have made a mistake here tonight." With that, he hurled the bottle at Gavin's head, smashing against my wall. I let out a scream and rushed to Gavin's side. He was bleeding all over his face, I couldn't see the cut.

"How could you?" I asked my dad. He picked up a glass picture frame and threw it, aiming for Gavin but nailed me instead. The glass cut into my arm.

"Clean up the mess bitch. And don't come to my house again. Or I will kill you." He slammed the door shut and I let go of all the tears.

"Holy shit, I'm so sorry, you're bleeding everywhere." I hurried him into the bathroom, fumbling around for my first aid kits before locating one. I tried to undo the wrapper for a wipe but my hands were too shaky. "Shit!" I cursed. Suddenly warm hands were placed over to of mine, steadying them. I looked up to stare at Gavin.

"Alexa, how long has this been going on for?" Alexa...wow that stung. To Gavin, I was always princess, or Lex, or even Howell. Never Alexa. My name just sounded foreign coming from his mouth.

"I swear this is the first time." He scoffed.

"Bullshit. You don't have to lie to me, who would I tell?"

"Oh I don't know, the whole school maybe? Make a mockery of the great Alexa Howell, it would put you in a very good position." His eyes were flaming.

"Stop joking around. How long has this been going on?"

"Since we were fourteen. He would come home, drunk to the point where all I was was a slut. And that's my name. Slut. He'd make me clean his messes, buy him his necessities, hit me. Explore me." I spat out, not even realizing the tears slipping down my face.

"That son of a bitch." Gavin mumbled. I cleaned his face's and wiped away the blood.

"I got used to it."

"No one should be used to that. Come on, you are coming with me." He took my hand and pulled me out the window.

"You are crazy, I'm not jumping." I told him. He shrugged, gave me a smile and jumped. I frantically glanced around making sure he was alright before he lifted his head, grinning at me with two thumbs up.

"I hate you." I heard his laugh.

"I know sweetheart now jump."  I closed my eyes, and let go of the railing. My scream got lodged in my throat. I gasped when I fell into Gavin's arms.

"Glad you could drop in." He set me down gently before pulling me to his car.

"Where are we going?"

"Somewhere safe"

After 45 minutes of aimless driving, we finally pulled up to a forest like area.

"Come on." Gavin said before getting out of the car. I followed him out and we walked through some trees until we reached a part of the forest where there was a lake. The stars shone brightly in the sky.

"This place is beautiful." I said in awe.

"Yeah. My mom used to take me here. Now it's my place to come when I need to get away from home." He was sitting on the floor so I joined him.

"Tell me about Monica. What happened to her?" I asked.

"Mom was over in the Middle East. She was out in the field when a plane flew over, shooting at the soldiers. One of the bullets hit my mom killing her instantly. That's why I want to go into the military. It's for her, so I can finish what she wanted." Tears filled his eyes and I reached over, placing my hand over his.

"I'm sorry." He nodded and I pulled off the dog tag from around my neck. He frowned at it before taking it from me.

"I was worried you would have thrown it away when we stopped being friends."

"Never. We may not have been friends but it was something that held a lot of meaning to me too. I couldn't have gotten rid of it."

"Well thank you. But you should keep it, I still want you to keep it safe." Gavin reached over, placing the chain back over my neck. He picked up a strand of my hair, twirling it around his finger as I realized the distance. Here, we had no interruptions. If I wanted to kiss him, I could. And it scared me because I did want too. I reached a shaky hand up to cup his face, running my finger over some of his scars. His breath quickened and I moved in slightly. His eyes darkened and he moved in too. Our lips brushed slightly before this kiss deepened. Our lips moved perfectly in sync and my body fit just right with his. He circled his arm around my waist pulling me into his lap. We started kissing more frantically, as I realized just how badly I had wanted this. I brushed his hair back as his hand tightened in my hair. He groaned softly and we both came apart, panting. I stared at his face before snapping out of it when my phone rang. I fumbled around and froze when I saw the caller ID.

"What? Who is it?" Gavin asked, getting worried. He came closer to me but I pushed him away.

"Kerr." I mumbled, pressing to decline the call.

"Shit!" He mumbled before scrambling up.

"That, didn't happen okay? Please drive me home."
