Lorelai's POV
This is it! Today is Tuesday and it marks the day that Luke and I will announce our engagement to the town. Luke's already told Jess, Liz, Tj, and April and I've told Rory, Emily, Richard, and Sookie. You may ask, why wait until Tuesday? Why not just tell people as we see them? Well, tonight marks the annual August town hall meeting, which means the whole town in one place.
Smart right? I'll give you one guess as to whose idea it was.
As I'm lost in my thoughts and excitement, I remember that Luke wanted me to get up before noon so he could take me to lunch in Hartford. I roll over and, damn it. My damn fuzzy clock is telling me that its 11 already.
I jump out of bed and get ready faster than ever, but not before downing a cup of coffee and then another one after I'm all ready. This is followed by speed walking to Luke's and then some deep groveling for being half an hour late.
Yeah, I suck at being on time for just about everything. I think Emily once told me that if given the chance, I'd be late to my own funeral.
"It's okay Lorelai, I wasn't even expecting you until 1:00. I figured I'd tell you noon so that you would be ready by 1:00." I can see him smirking behind my third cup of coffee this morning. Jerk. Good tactic, but still.
I silently glare at him as he tells Caesar he's leaving.
Since I'm now half an hour early instead of late, we go for a small walk before leaving for Hartford to meet our reservations.
Our walk takes us to the bridge on the lake, where Rory has told me many stories about her and Jess.
I start smiling thinking of the possibility of those two back together. I didn't like Jess at first, and I hated him for breaking her heart, but they were so young, maybe, like me and Luke, they just needed some time to find themselves before they could find each other.
"You're smiling."
"Am I?"
"What are you thinking about Lor?"
"Nothing really, just all of the memories Rory has left behind here."
"Yeah, Stars Hollow was her home for most of her life. She'll be so happy to come back here for the wedding."
"No, I mean yes she will be, but no. I meant here, at this lake. This is where her and Jess went for their picnic after the basket auction, this is where they met up after the dance-a-thon where Dean broke up with her. This is their special place." As I'm saying all of this I can sense Luke tense up around me. He's always loved Jess, why is he upset about my recent praise of him now?
"What the hell is up with you, Luke? Ever since you talked to Jess two damn days ago, you've been avoiding everything I say regarding him or him and Rory."
I hear him sigh and he wraps me in his arms. "Look, I have to tell you something, you just have to promise you wont tell Rory. She will find out whenever she meets with Jess tomorrow, and this is something he needs to tell her himself."
"I swear I won't tell Rory, but you need to tell me." Why hasn't he said anything before? He knows that I love him and would never break his trust.
"Jess, well.. he has a kid. There. I said it. My little nephew has a little baby girl named Laura."
Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and the Camel! That is so not what I expected!
