Chapter 13

"C'mon, Scarlett, get up!" James tries pulling me out of bed but I just groan and roll over, completely ignoring him. "You may be off school but you still have stuff to do." I wave my hand in the air then drop it. He sighs and plops down beside me.

"Go away," I mumble into my pillow.

"How much sleep did you get last night?" Scott asks, walking in I guess. I put my fingers into a zero before dropping it again. I feel Scott lie down on the other side of me. "Were you doing school work or the nightmares keeping you up?" Three fingers. Now I hear both men sigh.

"James, let her sleep. You can work her extra hard later. She won't be any good right now anyway. How 'bout you go train for a bit since you have your fights coming up." Thank you Scott!

"Fine. You going to stay here then?" James asks. I feel Scott nod. "Okay, just give me a shout if you need me." I try to nod against my pillow but I don't think it worked too well/ I hear my door close though, so James still left.

"Do you want me to stay, Scarlett?" Scott asks me. I nod again and turn to face him, cuddling up. He wraps his arms around me and I fall back to sleep.

Since the night I had asked them to stay a few weeks ago, if I get a really bad nightmare, I'll go to James' room and sleep there with him holding and comforting me. It actually helps more times than not.

"Scarlett, time to wake up." Someone is shaking me. I open my eyes and turn my head to face the person. It was James.

"Hey," I greet as I get up.

"Did you sleep any better?" I nod and look around for Scott. "He had to go to work. You hungry?"

"I'll be out in a few minutes." James nods and walks out. I get up and stretch, getting dressed for the workout I will no doubt have to do. I walk out when I'm ready.

"What was your nightmare about that kept you up all night?" James asks when I enter the kitchen.

"Peter killing everyone I know. It was really cruel how he would do it and every time I closed my eyes I'd panic when I'd see it again and again."

"You have to know that, that will never happen. You know that Scott and I are fine. Nathan is fine, I have no doubt about that." I nod but it still scares me. He must have seen my look of uncertainty. He pulls his phone out and hands it to me, Nathan's number pulled up. "Call him to see." I take the phone and make the call.

"Hi, this is Knight, give me a call later, I'm obviously not able to pick up your most likely important call," Nathan's voice rings out in voicemail and I freeze.

"He didn't pick up," I whisper. I hand James back his phone.

"He's probably at the gym helping someone and just can't reach it. There's no reason to worry, he can hold his own against Peter."

"Yeah, I'm just going to do some homework." I walk back into my room and grab my phone, dialing Nathan's number again.

"Hi, this is Knight–" I hang up and try again.

Voicemail. Try again.

Voicemail. Try again.

Voicemail. I have tears rolling down my cheeks as I try a fifth time.

"Hello?" Nathan's voice comes out of the phone. A sob escapes my lips when he answers.

"N-Nathan?" I ask.

"Charlie? What's wrong?"

"Y-You weren't a-answering. I thought something h-happened."

"Sorry, I was in the shower. I didn't know this was your number. Am I allowed to save it for future reference?"
