Should I?

I sat in the backseat with a big smile on my face! We were going to the annual barbecue for LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department). I was obligated to go given my dad, Mark Montgomery, was the chief of police. I didn't mind though because I was going to see my best friend, Lexie. Lexie and I have been friends since we were babies! We have lived next door to each other our whole lives. She is the other half of my heart! Lexie's mom, Naomi Cooper, is my mom's, Meredith Montgomery, best friend! Also Aunt Nay is second in command, basically she will take my dads job when he retires, if he retires! Anyways, Lexie and I graduated 6 weeks ago and we haven't seen each other since! Our families have been on vacation but at opposite times, so I am very excited to see her! As soon as we got to the park I bailed out of the car and started to call Lexie, my mom shouted after me "Addison! Make sure you don't leave before the speech!" I yelled back "I know mom! Love you!" Just as Lexie answered I saw her by the bbq. I snuck up behind her and and bear hugged her. She turned around and picked me up and twisted around yelling "Addisonnnnn!!" We talked for a while getting caught up on everything there was to get caught up about and then decided to find our parents since they announced that the speech was going to start soon. We found my mom and Lexie's dad sitting together since my dad and her mom were the ones giving the speech. We sat and listened then went and took pictures with them like we do every year for their newsletter or whatever it is! Lexie and I decided to go into the police station because we knew where they kept the candy! As we walked in we saw Jerry Smith, an officer, who is very sweet but really needs to retire! We chatted for a minute and continued on. Lexie decided she needed to use the restroom so we went in. I just checked my hair then went back out. When I walked out of the bathroom I bumped into the most gorgeous man that has ever walked this earth, Derek Hayes. He is the youngest of the officers being 24 years old and all the girls were after him. Lexie and I always oohed and awed over him, who wouldn't? He is gorgeous. He is perfectly proportioned, has beautiful blue eyes, is muscly, has the perfect tan, and has a arm band tattoo (which makes him even hotter). As I bumped into him he caught me and made sure I was standing up straight. He left his hands holding both my arms and it gave me butterflies in my stomach. He told me I should watch were I was going as he smiled that beautiful smile flashing those perfectly white teeth. I couldn't speak, so I just smiled. Luckily for me, Lexie came out of the bathroom right at that moment, Thank God! When Lexie came out Derek let go of my arms and said hi to Lexie and then looked back and me and told me I shouldn't go running into people anymore. He smiled and told us not to eat too much candy and he left. I watched him walk away with my mouth open. As soon as he turned the corner, Lexie pinched my arm. "What the hell was that, Addison!?" "Ow! What?!" "Addison, he was totally flirting with you!" "Lexie shut up!" *as I turn beat red* "I accidentally bumped into him that's all!" "Yeah right Addi." "Lexie we both know he's gorgeous, but come on there's an 6 year age difference. And you know my dad would never let that happen". "Addison, forget about your dad! Your 18 years old and are a responsible adult! You have to see if there's something there! What do you have to lose?" "You know what? Your right Lexie. I'm 18. There's nothing wrong with just testing it out!" "That's my girl! Now let's go get candy!" "Thank you Lexie!" "Thank me when you guys start dating!" I laughed and rolled my eyes at Lexie. Don't get me wrong, i would love to go out with Derek but i had my reservations. 1) we were 6 years apart and in very different stages of our lives 2) my dad would fraeakkkk out! 3) it could jeopardize Derek's career in lots of ways. I had a lot to think about before I could even consider going after him. We went to go get candy and we headed back out to the barbecue. Lexie needed to find her mom to ask her if she could spend the night at my house and I was thirsty so I told her I'd meet her at the gazebo in 10. I headed off to the cooler area. I decided to get water since I was so thirsty. I turned around and there Derek Hayes was standing. I asked "are you stalking me?" with a cute smile. He threw his head back and laughed and said "I could ask you the same!" I laughed and said "fair enough". I was trying to open my water but my hand kept slipping, he reached his hand out so I handed it to him and he opened it up for me and handed it back "thanks" I said. He asked "can we go inside so we can talk for a second?" I felt my stomach between to twist and become knotted, I felt like I was gonna throw up and I don't know how, but I ended up saying "yeah, sure" casually like it didn't excite me.
