Chapter 2

He led me into the police station and he pulled me into the first room to the right, shut the door and locked it. You know the saying "my heart skipped a beat"? Yeah my heart skipped lots a beats! He smiled and said "so some of the guys and I had an idea." Right then I knew this meeting wasn't as personal as I was hoping it to be. "As I know you know, your dads 50th birthday is coming up." Oh, he just wanted to talk about my dad, that was the LAST thing I wanted to talk about with Derek. "Yeah I know." "Well we wanted to throw him a big birthday bash!" "Oh! I'm sure he would love that..." "Great! Can I get your number so I can contact you and you can help me set it up?" I grabbed his phone and punched in my number and handed it back. "Here you go" "Thanks Addison, it'll help me out a lot" "No problem, Derek. I should get back to the party before my parents start looking for me, bye." And with that I walked out the door. I went into the bathroom and leaned against the wall. I felt ridiculous having these kinds of feelings for someone I hardly knew and especially because I knew how bad of an idea it was. But i couldnt just let it go, i have to try and maybe helping him with my dads party would be the perfect way to get closer to him. I took a deep breathe and went back out to the party. I remembered I was supposed to meet Lexie at the gazebo 10 minutes ago, "oh crap!" I went to the gazebo to find Lexie there looking pissed off. "Addison where have you been?! I sat here for like 15 minutes waiting for you!" I told her I was sorry and I told her everything that had just happened. The party was winding down and since we helped set up yesterday we didn't have to help take it down! Lexie had her car with her so I left with her and we drove home. She ran to her house to grab some clothes and nail polish since she was spending the night and I was cleaning my room up a little when my phone buzzed, it was from Derek: hey could we meet tomorrow for lunch or something so we could talk about the party? My treat(:". I answered back "sure. I'll text you tomorrow and tell you when and where(:" he answered back "sounds good!" I stood there smiling like an idiot I didn't even hear Lexie walk in. "Addison why are you smiling like your on drugs?" "I...I uh, just thought of someth....Derek texted me." "Ooh! What did he say?!" I let Lexie read the texts and she squealed in delight because he put a smiley face. She begin typing something fast on my phone and before I could grab it i heard my phone go 'swoosh' meaning the message sent. She handed me my phone and I read the message: "sweet dreams! Don't let the bed bugs bite!(;". "Lexie! What the hell?!" She smiled and got up to change into her pajamas, so I followed suit. We put in a movie, 27 dresses, our favorite movie to watch together. About halfway through the movie, Lexie and I got texts at the same time, it was from Britnie Green, "huge party tonight at Lance's, please come!" We debated if we should go or not. Our parents were gonna be out late they all went to dinner, and when they came home they would just think we went to bed already if they didn't hear us and they wouldn't check on us, so we decided to go. We got dressed, I decided to wear my teal blue strapless summer dress that went far enough down my thigh to cover everything important but was still pretty short, with white sandals and I curled my hair to perfection, I put on my favorite lipgloss that tastes like bubblegum. Lexie wore her creamy white one shoulder summer dress with black sandals and wore the same lipgloss and let her hair down straight. She had the most beautiful dark blonde hair that went down to her mid back. My hair was a chestnut with a hint of red in it, and it went down to almost my mid back. We decided to take Lexies car since she parked in a garage seperated from the main garage, her parents wouldn't notice her car was gone. She had a red vw bug that she got for her 16th birthday. I had a white BMW, it was my moms and she got a new car so I got her old one. I know I seem spoiled and I kind of am. I have an older brother, Avery, and sister, Aria, who are twins, they are 22, and moved out 3 years ago, so I am the only one left and I'm headed to college in two months. Lexie is an only child. Lexie and I are going to the same college and we are going to be dorm mates! I am so excited. The college is only about 45 minutes away from our house, so it will be nice to be able to go home whenever we want. We got in her car and headed to the party. We live in LA, so even though the house is only about 20 minutes away it took about 45 minutes to get there because of all the traffic and it being a friday night didn't help either. I've lived here my whole life though so I was used to it. The house we are going to is Lance Whites house. Lance is one of the richest kids in school and is a popular and just happens to be the quarterback of the football team. His dad is a lawyer and he is very well known. His mom is like the top realtor in the LA area, so that is why his family is very rich and their house was magnificent! When we pulled up we parked two blocks away from the house because 1) it was be easier to leave when we were ready and 2) if any cops drove by the party they would spot our car and call our parents, which would be very bad! Lexie and I walked in and everyone whooped and hollered. Lexie and I were popular girls in high school but we weren't those snotty rich kid polulars, surprisingly our high school wasn't really like that. Lexie and Lance have had a "thing" since sophomore year but they have never actually dated. They are "friends with benefits" type of people. So as soon as we walked in Lance spotted us and brought us over drinks and then went off with Lexie. I didn't mind since I was friends with everyone at this party. Evan Lancaster came up to me and asked me if I would like to dance, so I finished my drink and went to dance. I'm not a big drinker, but I just graduated and I was going to college in a few months so I wanted to let loose tonight! They changed songs just as I went to dance, Domino by Jessie J started playing which is a great dance song! Evan and I danced for a few songs then I got thirsty so I went and got a drink. I got pretty wasted. I went to try to find Lexie and I walked past a doorway and someone grabbed my arm and pulled me into the hallway, it was Derek Hayes! "Hey Derek! Did you come here to see me? You look very sexy right now!" "Addison, you are so drunk. You need to find Lexie so I can get you guys outta here." "I don't want to leave yet." "Too bad, cops are on their way and they will be documenting everyone at this damn party, so find Lexie and lets go!" "Okay, I don't know where she is though and this house is huge!" "You look down here and I will go upstairs and look." So I went on my way to look for Lexie as Derek headed upstairs to look. 10 minutes later he came down with her and grabbed me and we slipped out the back door. Just as we jumped the fence into the nieghbors yard, we heard sirens and tires screeching. The music stopped and people were yelling trying to get out of the house without getting caught. We jumped another fence with the help of Derek since we were both so drunk and we were finally at Lexie's car. Lexie was drunker than I was so Derek laid her in the backseat and I sat in the passenger seat while Derek drove us home. Lexie and I were passed out by the time we got home. When Derek woke me up i was using his lap as a pillow...awkward! Derek carried Lexie up to my room and put her on my bed. I walked back down stairs with him and stopped at the side door. "...Thank you for coming to get us, our parents would ha....thank you." "I know, your welcome." "How did you even know we would be there?" "Heard about the party on the street and figured you guys would probably go for a little bit since it was going to be the biggest party of the summer." "Now I wish I hadn't gone, how embarrassing. Are you gonna....tell my parents?" "No. As long as you promise me you won't get this drunk where you can't take care of yourself ever again." I smiled and said "yes officer!" We stayed there for a few seconds smiling at each other. Then I looked at the ground and I kinda lost my balance and stumbled sideways. Derek reached out and grabbed my hips to steady me,when I was steady he didn't move his hands. One of my hands was on his hand and he slowly pulled me closer to him. We were inches away from each other his arms now wrapped around my waist. He leaned down to kiss me and right as his lips were about to touch mine he stopped and looked at me to make sure it was okay, I nodded and he kissed me.
