Adams Point Of View:

I couldn't believe today was the day, it was my moms funeral. I was standing on the balcony picking petals off daises. Lola appeared behind me draping my coat over my shoulders, deep down I didn't know how I felt. Lola said she will be there for me no matter what, and I believed her. I loved her so much and I don't know what I would do without her. As I got changed into my suit I struggled with the tie, I couldn't concentrate and I was getting annoyed. Lola took the tie from my hands and done it up for me. Lola looked at me, I knew it was time. As we drove to the church, I saw tons of people family and friends. They were her in hundreds, it made me proud to know how many lives my moms touched. I got called over by an old family friend, Lola was talking to my dad and Neil. I looked round as the vicar said it was time to go inside, Lola went inside as I took one side of my moms coffin and carried it inside. I walked up the aisle feeling the eyes of hundreds on me, I looked in the row an spotted Lola it was instantly reassuring.

As I sat down next to Lola her hand linked with mine. I listened as the vicar said a whole bunch of religious stuff, and then it was time for the speeches. I listened to my dad and brother, they were so heartfelt I felt a wave of sadness. Then it was my turn, as I said my piece I felt tears filling my eyes and a lump in my throat I did all I could to not cry. As I sat back down I felt a tear roll down my cheek, the vicar ended the ceremony. I watched as my mom disappeared behind the curtain as people filed out of the church. I sat in the now empty church looking at the curtain, she was really gone. I couldn't hold back the tears any longer as they flooded down my face. I heard heels clicking up the aisle as Lola appeared at my side, "oh baby" she said wrapping her arms around my shoulders. "I can't believe she had gone, it is like she's still here" I told her. She put her hand on my heart "she's still with you in here."  I took her hand as we headed to my dads for the wake.

As we went inside I noticed the amount of people, my dad handed us both a glass of wine. "I can't drink this, my tablets" I said to Lola tipping it down the sink. As the night went on everyone was starting to get tipsy, me and Lola were the only ones that weren't. I heard the same words echo as someone else came over to me, "im sorry for your loss". Seriously if I heard that one more time I was going to scream, Lola sensed this "shall we go?" she asked. A sigh of relief crossed my face as I nodded my head. As we pulled into the driveway a wave of tiredness hit me like a brick. I headed upstairs and put Paisley to bed, Lola came up about 5 minutes later and handed my a drink. She went to have a shower, I laid back as I felt my eyes shut. Lola slid in next to me putting the duvet up around us.

I was awoken a few hours later by a knocking on the front door.

I felt Adam move next to me, I heard someone knocking. "What's the time?" I asked looking over at Adam. "About 2 am I believe" he replied. The knocking continued "who's knocking at this time?!" I exclaimed getting out of bed. "Wait for me, that could be anyone" Adam said getting out of bed. We pulled on our dressing gowns and headed downstairs. Adam unlocked the door and opened it, I could have screamed "Mom what the hell are you doing here?!" I asked. "Can I come in we need to talk" she asked. "what at 2am in the morning? Are you seriously joking me? Couldn't it wait until tomorrow?" I demanded. "Not really, Lola I've left your dad" she said. I felt my mouth drop open, "You should let her in Lola" Adam said. "Fine come in you've got five minutes and that's it" I said stepping aside to let her in.

She followed me and Adam into the lounge. I sat on the sofa with Adam and she sat in the armchair never once looking up. "You wanted to talk so talk" I said crossing my arms. "Lola I want to start by apologising for the way I've been towards you. I shouldn't have acted that way, but I had to stand by your dad. The same way you will stand by Adam" she said. "So taking sides with him is easier than sticking up for your own daughter?" I asked. "Yeah I guess it was, I couldn't believe the way he started calling you every name under the sun." she replied. "Yeah well, you weren't much better where you? You're the same as him you deserve each other." I stated. "That's not fair, you weren't exactly very nice to him were you?" she said. "Don't you even dare turn this around to being my fault. You have your own mind, you should have stuck up for your daughter. I've told you so many times he's evil but you never listened did you? Now you're here inside our house begging forgiveness, it doesn't work like that mom!" I shouted getting more and more worked up.

Adam sensed this and squeezed my hand, I calmed down and looked over at my mom. "I know and you were right, he hit me Lola I should have listened to you" she said looking up. I hadn't noticed before but she had a deep cut on her head above her eye. "How did he do that?" I asked. "With a broken bottle, he flipped out completely" she said. I couldn't stand anymore of this, I got up and headed towards the kitchen I could hear Adam talking to her. I placed my hands on the cold counter and lent over it, I hated her so much but why was I feeling sorry for her I couldn't understand it. Adam stood in the doorway "You should let her stay you know, you can't make her go back there" he said. "She can rot in hell for all I care" I replied. "Lola she's still your mom, let her stay for a couple of days" Adam replied. "Fine 2 days, that's all. She's not going anywhere near Paisley and im not going to talk to her" I exclaimed sighing. "I'm going back to bed, she can sleep in the spare room" I said kissing his neck and heading upstairs.

I laid in bed staring at the celling, I couldn't get back to sleep. Adam had since come to bed, he was asleep next to me. I pulled out my phone "Hey Lidy, I know its really late but I need a favour. Can you look after Paisley for a few days, something has come up. I will fill you in tomorrow. Love ya lots Lola x." I pressed send and threw my phone onto the side. I guess I must have fell asleep because I woke up to pale autumn sunshine through the curtains. I looked over at my phone, Lydia had texted me back "Hey girl, yeah sure me and Tommy would love that. Love ya Lidy x." I tiptoed out of bed and pulled on some clothes, I headed to Paisleys room. She was wide awake and was kicking her legs in her cot, I picked her up and got her ready. I picked her up and went into the kitchen, I made her some breakfast. Once she was done I put her in the car, "we are going to see uncle Tommy and Auntie Lydia" I said to her. She smiled at me as I drove up the road and pulled into Lydia's driveway. I knocked on the door and Tommy answered it, "hey Lola come on in, she will be down in a minute she's just getting dressed" he said stepping aside as I went inside.

Lydia appeared in the doorway, "Hey girl what's going on?" she asked. "My mom that's what. She turned up on my doorstep at 2am saying she's left my dad" I said. "Oh I bet that was real exciting for you" Lydia replied sarcastically. "Oh yeah highlight of my day, she came out with the whole im really sorry about everything crap." I said. "And Adam?!" Lydia asked. "He's said she can stay for a few days" I replied. "Hence why we are looking after Paisley?" Tommy questioned. "Yeah, I don't want that twisted witch anywhere near my daughter are you sure you guys don't mind" I asked. "Nah of course not we love Paisley" Tommy said. "Thanks guys I really appreciate it, I owe you one" I said hugging them both. "Mommy's going now baby girl, be good for Lydia and Tommy" I said to Paisley kissing her head. She nodded her head and waved, I waved back and headed towards the door. I hugged Lydia "thanks so much for this, you are the best. I'll ring later to check on Paisley if that's ok?" I said. "Yeah sure thing, don't let that wicked cow upset you Lola" she said as I climbed into the car and drove off.

I pulled into the driveway, I took a deep breath and stepped inside. Adam popped his head round the kitchen door, "Lola there you are I wondered where you got to, where's Paisley?" he asked a worried look appearing on his face. "She's not here, she's with Lydia and Tommy. I'm not having her anywhere near Paisley." I told him crossing my arms. "Lola she's your mom! She has a right to know her granddaughter!" Adam replied looking shocked. "She lost the right of being my mom the day she kicked me out and trampled all over me like a mat!" I shouted at him. My mom appeared in the doorway, "I heard shouting I hope you're not arguing about me" she said. "No.. we ar.." he started I interrupted him "its not always about you mom!" I shouted as I grabbed my phone and went out the garden slamming the door behind me.
