As the four trekked through the dark oak forest, Bethany continually got more scared, and more worried for Jordan's safety. Ventar had told them that Tree Pigs did horrible things to their prisoners. Bethany couldn't imagine what Jordan was going through, and what possibly could be happening to him. Whenever she thought about it, she got so scared, she was desperately trying to hold back tears. She didn't want to look weak in the territory of her enemies. Mountain Cows and Tree Pigs were natural foes ever since the experiment that created the civilized nations.
Cierra stopped them to climb a tree, and scout ahead. She signaled with a whistle that the coast was clear, and dropped down. Isaac and Ventar followed her in the direction to the base camp, but Bethany was hesitant.
"Bethany," Isaac called back. "You can't stay there. Do you want to find Jordan, or not?"
Suddenly, Jordan's yellow flower screamed, and dropped to the ground, but nothing was attacking it.
"Oh, no," Ventar gasped, and morphed into a human to scoop up the precious flower.
"What happened?" Cierra exclaimed in worry. The flower had been weak since it alerted them to the attack, but this was the first time it had collasped. Since Jordan and the flower were soul-bonded, the flower shared his lifespan, pain tolerance, toughness, strength, and pain, in and of itself. Something was happening to Jordan, and it wasn't good.
The flower was now in Ventar's hands, shaking, with the occasional muscle spasm. Ventar's bright blue eyes stared in to helpless flower, as Bethany's and Cierra's yellow flowers rushed over to help. Jordan's flower was obviously in an extreme amount of pain, and couldn't go on, but it was calling out. Each of them, being soul-bonded to at least one flower, could clearly understand the language, besides Isaac, who was not yet soul-bonded. To Bethany, Cierra, and Ventar, however, it sounded like the flower was calling "Jordan! Please! Don't give in to them! Stay strong!"
"What's it saying?" Isaac asked. To him, the flower made the sound of a shrill, but soft squeak.
"It's telling Jordan to stay strong," Bethany interpreted, with tears welling up in her eyes again. This time, it was impossible to hold them back, and she broke into unwanted tears, and fell to her knees.
"Bethany! Everything's going to be fine! Trust me," Cierra held her, and tried to assure her. "Remember, soul-bonds work both ways."
Bethany suddenly got a burst of determination, and pulled off her bag.
"Give me the flower."
