The siblings prepared for the trip for the rest of the day, and spent their time packing.
Bethany worked on making healing potions and other battle potions, just in case. It was always good to have some on hand, just in case they were attacked by monsters. All they were doing was going from one place to another within Mountain Cow borders, but monsters didn't care about borders, they were just spawned by the Wither, so it could potentially gain a body that it could resurrect into one of its minions.
The next morning, the siblings wasted no time in getting ready to go, and set out to the Imperial City, flowers in tow. It was heavily overcast, and looking like it was going to storm. Every now and again, one of them would feel a single raindrop, but not even a constant drizzle.
They were entering the mountain region as a zombie wearing iron armor came up and attacked Isaac, but it wasn't alone. The zombie had brought a friend, also wearing iron armor, but this one only wore a chestplate, while the other had leggings. Isaac drew his axe and brought it down on the first one, while Bethany whacked the other over the head with her crowbar. Both of them defeated their foes without a scratch. They salvaged the armor to either sell, or fix for later use. One had some coins on it, so Jordan grabbed those as well.
As they made their way towards the Imperial City, located in the center of the region, thunder boomed overhead, and it began to rain. The siblings kept trekking on in the drizzle, but soon, had to run for cover in a small outcropping to wait out the pounding rain. They had to wait for a few hours before the rain stopped, so they could strike out again, and continue their journey.
The Imperial City was on top of a mountain in the middle of the biome. A gateway in the side of the mountain allowed for entrance, as the market district of the city was inside the mountain. The siblings stopped at some of the shops to sell and browse. After this, they climbed a staircase leading to the top of the mountain, where the governmental district was.
Ventar was waiting for them in his office in the capitol building.
"Jordan! I'm glad you could make it!" Ventar beamed, standing up. He was in human form, so his shoulder length silver hair trailed behind him.
"I didn't expect you to be arriving so soon, honestly," Ventar expressed. "I thought you still would've been recovering from the beating Porteran gave you, Jordan."
"It wasn't all that bad, actually," Jordan told him. "The only reasons why I couldn't walk without help was because my hip was out of place, and my ankles had been burned. With a little help from the flowers and Bethany, I was back up and running in no time."
"You're lucky you have a sister who's so talented and gifted in the art of healing magic," Ventar complimented. Bethany blushed.
"Saffie was an excellent teacher, and Elise is still better than me" Ventar laughed.
"Well, I guess that is true, but Elise studied primarily in medicinal and healing magic. You studied primarily in battle magic."
"Yeah, that's true. I signed up to be a battle magician, not a healer," Bethany agreed.
"Either way, that's not what I summoned you here to discuss," Ventar began. "We are here to discuss plans of action. The Tree Pigs are trying to start a war, and attacked a few of our patrols. There isn't any way out of this, they are endangering us, and we have to defend ourselves. It truly is unfortunate for this all to have sparked from a rescue mission. They're trying to make it seem to the other two nations as though we were the ones who started it. This could mean all-out war between all four nations, because of something as silly as this!" Ventar seemed very frustrated, and that was an understatement. "I'm sorry," he apologized. "I didn't mean to raise my voice."
"It's alright, Ventar," Isaac told him. "We were just as enraged by this as you are when we heard the news." Ventar sighed.
"Well, no matter. We must be prepared. Jordan, come with me," he commanded.
"What about us?" Cierra asked.
"I'm afraid you can't come with us," Ventar told the siblings.
"Why not?" Bethany asked.
"This is a private 'ceremony', so to speak," he explained.
Jordan was shocked at this. Where was Ventar taking him? Jordan was uneasy, yet excited at the same time. Ventar had something planned for him! Jordan's siblings agreed to stay behind, and Ventar led Jordan into a secret cave behind the building. It was dark, and Jordan could barely see as he was lead down a long flight of steps. Eventually, the staircase led into a hallway, which lead to an iron door. Ventar unlocked it with his key and opened the door, stepping aside. "After you," he said.
Jordan stepped inside the darkened room, and when he was a few steps in, torches lit up around him, revealing that this room was a secret library with bookshelves filled to the brim with spellbooks. It was a wizard's paradise.
Ventar motioned for Jordan to follow, bringing him to a room where the walls were built of bookshelves, and the only thing in the center of it was an enchantment table with a closed book of enchantments. The room was dark and small.
"Wait here," Ventar told him, closing the door behind him, leaving Jordan alone in the dark enchantment room. Jordan had his short sword on him, but kept it holstered. He didn't know the power that an enchantment room held, but looking closely, he could barely make out runes floating to the book of enchantments and disappearing into the book.
After a few moments, Ventar returned, holding a sword. Jordan looked at it in awe. It was made of pure diamond, and was cool to the touch.
"If you decide to let me carry out this ceremony, this sword will be yours," Ventar told him. "After the ceremony, not only will you become a Mountain Cow general, but this sword may hold immense magic, powered by the enchantment of your choice."
Jordan was speechless for a few moments. Immense power would be in his hands, should he choose to accept his position as general.
"All right," Jordan conceded. "I'll become one of your generals."
