It was my first day at my new school. I felt myself let out a nervous breath at the sight of the five story building. Students were streaming into the front doors quickly to get to class on time. Everyone wore school uniforms. The colors were navy and white. I didn't have one yet and immediately felt out of place.
Walking into the plain, boring school I found my way to the front office for my schedule. After receiving a not-so-warm welcome from an office lady, I was handed my schedule. Since I moved schools in the middle of the fall semester I was put into random classes. I frowned as I noticed I was stuck in electives such as art and weight lifting. What kind of females sign up for weight lifting?!
It took me a solid ten minutes to figure out where my first class of the day was: math. It was my favorite subject and I always excelled in it. I pushed open the door and entered shakily. It was time to settle into my new school and schedule.
"Are you Hannah Wolf?" The teacher at the front of the room inquired, giving me a strange look.
I nodded and stepped fully into the classroom. All eyes were on me, checking out the new girl. Staring at me.
"Good. You can sit there in the back. Welcome to Darren High School." And with that being said the teacher, Mrs. Cool, went straight into teaching math.
It only took a few minutes before it started.
The bullying.
I was a magnet for it.
Why?
Because of my face. I had a birthmark that covered almost half of my face. It was purple and I've had it all my life. I never escaped the bullying.
A rolled up piece of paper hit me in the side of my face. A female student leaned across to whisper, "Hey, Hannah. What's up with your face? It looks like you failed at putting your eye shadow on this morning."
People in tables around us began giggling and smirking in my direction. I didn't answer the girl and pretended to be concentrating on the teacher's lesson. Several more paper balls were thrown at me throughout the hour and a half class. I took it all in and didn't say anything. I was used to this. I've been bullied endlessly from students before so a few paper balls were nothing.
I made it through a few more classes before lunch finally came. I quickly went through the lunch line, getting a few weird looks from the lunch ladies, and found an empty table to sit at. I didn't eat much since I was still filled with nervous anxiety.
About halfway through lunch five girls came over to my table. I immediately recognized the girl from my math class who first started throwing the paper balls.
"Hey Hannah!" She smiled at me evilly.
I didn't respond and looked down at my food, pretending to not hear the bully.
"Yah, I'm speaking to you. You should pay attention to your upper class man." The girl backed up her words by quickly reaching out and pulling my hair to get my attention.
I gritted my teeth and looked her in the eyes.
But when I did all I saw was her dumping her leftover spaghetti onto my head. The four other girls around the main one began laughing hysterically.
"Whoops, I meant to throw the spaghetti in the trash can, but you seemed more worthy of it instead." The main girl sneered.
The five girls all got up simultaneously and walked away from my table, snickering.
I struggled to not show any reaction.
"Come on Hannah. You've had worse. Much worse. A little food in your hair won't end your life." I mumbled to myself, trying to regain my composure.
I exited the lunchroom after succeeding in holding back any emotion and found a bathroom. I ended up putting my whole head under the sink to get rid of all the spaghetti sauce, but the same couldn't be done for my clothes.
"Oh well.. they can just be washed." I thought.
I managed to avoid anymore mishaps throughout the rest of the school day, although I garnered many more stares and looks. I had only one class left. Weight lifting.
I entered the weight room uncertainly and immediately noticed many things at once.
First off was the guys. Shirtless guys. Working out. I was drooling.
Second thing was the lack of girls in the class naturally. I could only pick out about two other females. What girls wanted to work out anyways?
Third and lastly was the amount of staring I received. Of course.
"Are you Hannah Wolf?" A deep, male voice addressed me.
I turned towards the voice and my heart skipped a beat. In front of me was the most gorgeous guy I've ever seen. Dark looks with piercing, nearly black, eyes. He had on his gym outfit and he was slightly sweaty. Unfortunately, when I turned towards him I exposed my side of the face with the birth mark. Surprisingly, his facial expression didn't change and he pretended not to notice it.
Suddenly he did the funniest thing. His nose crinkled up and he said out to nobody in particular, "Spaghetti must have been served at lunch today.."
My face turned a dark red (minus the purple birth mark) when I noticed that my clothes still slightly smelled like spaghetti.
"Uhh.. I got lunch spilled on me today by accident."
The guy looked at my stained clothes and grinned. "Yeah, definitely spaghetti."
I let out a small laugh and the stress and weight of today seemed to be disappearing from me. It felt good to laugh a little.
"I'm Ian by the way. The coach isn't here right now. If you don't have any gym clothes you can just watch today."
I nodded, more than happy to "just watch" today.
