Self Harm

Ian's POV:

I stood outside of the school patiently as I waited for Kai. He had called me earlier and said that he had something to tell me urgently. When I noticed his silver head bobbing above the rest of the students in the crowd that signaled school was over for the day, I waved at him and smiled. My smile quickly faded when I noticed that Kai wasn't alone.

Hannah's white hair stood out like the moon on a dark night against the hoards of students leaving for home. She looked beautiful as always with her dark purple birthmark and snug fitting school uniform. A pang of guilt along with fear settled deep in the pit of my stomach. Out of sheer instinct, I stepped back when Kai and Hannah drew closer.

"Kai..." I began and cast a glance in Hannah's direction.

Kai smiled in his natural light-hearted manner and put his hands up almost as a sign that everything was okay, "Hannah's fine, Ian. There isn't a reason to be afraid of her yet."

"Yet?" I questioned and raised an eyebrow. I looked skeptically at Hannah who was standing a few feet back from Kai. She seemed to be nervous and wouldn't stop staring at the ground.

"Yeah, we finally got Gretchen to talk during lunch." Kai's smile grew wider.

"You did!?" The surprise caused my guard to go down momentarily. Hannah looked up when my voice had risen and I accidentally made eye contact with her. My heart almost stopped when her dark brown eyes met mine and exuded hurt and concern. She quickly turned her head to the side as her white hair naturally fell into her face.

"Yeah. But the situation's more serious than I thought..." Kai's smile hadn't lasted long. "It seems we've come across an issue I don't think we will be able to solve safely in the city."

"Go on," I nodded at him.

"The first bite Hannah received after being led in the woods by Gretchen... That was Rue changing hosts." Kai looked slowly at the ground.

The utter shock of hearing that Rue still existed left me speechless. Our Alpha was sure that Rue had been extinguished from the Earth nearly a decade ago!

"Ho-How?" I stared at Hannah again and almost took another step back.

Rue was such an evil wolf who had managed to live for centuries by changing her host every few decades. Many wolf packs all around the globe had tried to completely wipe out her existence since she had a tendency to murder mass amounts of people in short periods of time. However, if anyone ever found out who Rue was currently using as a host, she could easily transfer herself to a new host and vanish from a pack's radar. The Alpha of my pack had thought he had finally caught up to Rue and ended her life by killing the host she was occupying, but apparently not?

"It was actually a miracle that the Alpha had bitten Hannah a second time. The second wolf that was added has kept Rue at bay from completely taking her over." Kai said with a positive tone.

I nodded my understanding and replied with, "I need to meet with the Alpha immediately to discuss this. You need to stay with Hannah, Kai, and make sure Rue doesn't try anything." I ran off before Kai could say anything and headed for the outside of the city.

I felt bad for ignoring Hannah because of my fear and the Alpha's orders, but it couldn't be helped. It was only best that I kept a safe distance from her.
