(Five months since our disappearance)
Hannah's POV:
I stayed quiet in our mind as Ava tracked a few small prey throughout our day. My depression had grown significantly at not being able to do anything and from the longing to see my family and Kai and Ian. I tried not to let my emotions leak through to Ava and distract her, but it happened anyways.
The moment she sensed my depression it caused her lunge at the small rabbit to be badly timed and it escaped quickly.
Hannah! Ava growled in frustration.
I'm sorry Ava... I mumbled regretfully. I couldn't hold it back.
We needed that too, Ava replied angrily. It's been too long since we've eaten and this territory is over hunted. There's hardly any deer left.
I know. I really am sorry. I let her feel my apologetic feelings.
Ava sighed and laid down. I suppose there isn't much of a choice anymore.
What do you mean, Ava? I wondered.
...I'll let you go now, Hannah. I know you've been waiting for this. But if Rue shows any sign of returning, I'll come right back!
I was still processing this when I felt Ava recede in my mind and my own self regain control. The feeling was absolute freedom! I voluntarily lifted my paws up experimentally and walked forward a few steps. The new feeling sent me over the edge and I began sprinting full speed in an automatic southern direction.
I could go home now!
You probably should eat something first, Hannah. Ava gently reminded me in my head.
I slowed to a trot and quickly realized how empty my stomach was.
Yeah, I'll find something quick and be on my way! I said excitedly.
***
I was holding a steady pace and had been travelling for several days now. I was almost back to my home area and couldn't feel more elated. Energy and adrenaline from my excitement radiated all throughout my limbs. My paws hardly felt like they were touching the ground.
Hannah, I know you're happy and all, but you should try turning back into your human form. Ava mentioned.
Why? That will just take time.
Well, you don't want to look like a fool when you get back to the pack. Practice a little. She reasoned.
Slowing to a stop, I considered it and agreed with a little bark. Okay, quickly! I won't be able to talk to you when I'm a human though, right?
Yes, but I'll still be able to see what you are doing and experience it. Ava explained.
I glanced around for a bit. We were in the middle of a grain field that stretched for a few miles. My head barely peaked over the stalks and the woods were still a ways off. Guess I'll just try right here. Nobodies around anyways.
