"Matthew, is everything okay?", Elizabeth Collins Stoddard asked.

"Yes, Mrs. Stoddard, I was overlooking the cannery. It's freezing at this time of year". He sipped his coffee.

"I know, Matthew. Has Roger Collins telephoned?", she asked.

"No, and neither has Bill Malloy".

"Has anyone seen him?".

"No, and it's not like him".

"Maybe you'd call Burke, and tell him he's gone".

"No, he's in Bangor on business".

"I wouldn't like him to be bothered by any trouble".

"No, I don't suppose so. Besides, it's hard to keep David happy".

"Isn't Victoria Winters his Governess?".

"Yes, since the other Governesses have died, or been mysteriously vanished, from Collinsport, I wouldn't like to think about how they died. Besides, Widow's Hill is a dangerous place at night; Widow's Hill has trapped all of the wives there".

"And now you're thinking the curse will affect Victoria Winters".

"Victoria Winters is a woman who can take care of herself, just like my daughter, Carolyn. Is there anything else that you need to talk to me about, Matthew?".

"No, the shipping consignments are ready. There's nothing else to say, Mrs. Stoddard, except for the news that it's freezing in Collinswood Manor".

"The Mansion is old. And, for all of my time here, nothing can stop us from living in it. Nothing. Now, si there something else?".

"No. I'm having lunch. If you need me, let me know. Good bye!".

"Good bye, Matthew".
