Chapter 5: The Witch and the Curse

Have you ever heard the tale of the witch and the cursed one? Once on these very grounds, Mavis Vermillion stood protecting all of the kingdom of Fairy Tail with her powerful magic. Some called her a witch, but others said she was their great warrior and protector. On a cold stormy Winter's evening the warriors from the kingdom neighboring Fairy Tail's borders launched an attack to seize control of the kingdom. The leader of this attack was a young man, Emperor Zeref Spriggan. He yearned for power because his heart wasn't fufilled in his own Kingdom.

Mavis Vermillion rose up above the soldiers fighting for Fairy Tail and defeated most of Zeref's ranks with her powerful magic. At last when the day's long war was coming to an end, Fairy Tail claiming victory once again. Mavis approached the lone Emperor saddled aboard his steed amongst the chaos of depleated ranks. She knew he had harmed her kingdom and hurt her family, but she couldn't help but be fascinated by the young man in front of her.

He too met her gaze and held it there for more than necessary. One would call it love at first sight, but Mavis knew that her love towards her kingdom was greater than it would ever be towards any person. She couldn't find it in her to kill the man so she lay a curse upon him tbat would be much worse. Any living creature to approach the man would perish leaving him isolated and alone. After Fairy Tail claimed victory, they made Mavis their Queen. They honored and cherished her as she had brought them peace and victory.

Zeref lived away from young Mavis, knowing that his life would forever be altered. As the world continued for the two people living in parallel kingdoms, Mavis always kept her eye on the man who she couldn't kill. She saw him suffer the pains of isolation, wishing that she could've just killed him then tortured him as she did. Crying her eyes out every night her kingdom worried for their ruler's sake. Zeref was locked away in a dungeon due to his cruel curse and was not approached by any.

Knowing that she had led to his torture, Mavis had ripped out her heart from her body, and given up her body. Giving up her mortal form for him, Mavis as a ghostly spirit would no longer be able to kill, only curse enemies, but she would be able to stay by his side. The enemy she had fallen for. She stayed by his side locked in a deep dungeon day after day. Talking with him, laughing with him, and sharing the best moments of her life with Zeref. But all too soon had Zeref's life dwindled, and being an immortal she had endless life, but not realizing the mortality of her love she sank into depths of grief and sorrow.

Upon his last words, Zeref admitted to loving Mavis and shared his first and last kiss with his true love. Mavis returned to her kingdom only to find it ruled by another, she was broken spirited and broken hearted as she watched the once lovely kingdom grow. She still protected the Fairy Tail lands caring for each of its subjects. With no other purpose in life she single handedly protected Fairy Tail from harm. Still to this day never faltering to protect the land she loved, and always will love.
