Chapter 6: Lucy and Natsu

Back at the Palace with Lucy:
"Finally finished, but now I have to drag this much stuff down the steps of my tower" Lucy complained to the air in a dreading voice as she had completed in packing everything from her tower that she would need for her new apartment on Strawberry Street.
"Hey Luce, what's with all the boxes?" Startled Lucy jumped backwards before facing the window to find a pink haired boy with scaled wings staring in at her.
"DRAGNEEL! What are you doing here? I thought you needed to find your father," Lucy asks
"Yeah I did need to, but since I was in the area I thought I could drop in and see my only friend. So what's been happening here?" Dragneel asks
"Well that night after meeting you for the first time, I was going to be forced to marry Prince Jellal of the kingdom Crime Sorciere..." Lucy is cut off by a dragon
"WHAT?! Are you still betrothed? Have you even met this guy? If you don't like him I could take you far away from here!"
"Calm down Dragneel, ya know your name is a mouthful to say, how about I call you...ummm... Natsu as in the time that we met. Natsu is another word for Summer!"
"Luceeee what about this marriage tell me you don't like this guy so I can steal you away from here!" Lucy blushes
"No Natsu, we're not engaged anymore, and I'm no longer the princess of Fairy Tail. I gave away my title so I can pursue my dreams of being a writer for the daily post, Sorcerer's Weekly down in the village of Magnolia," Lucy responds. Natsu visibly relaxes "at least she's not in love with this Jellal guy or anything" he thinks to himself.
"Then what's with all these boxes Luce?" Natsu Dragneel asks the retired princess.
"I'm moving into the village where I can start up my career!' Lucy replies enthusiastically pumping her fist in the air. Natsu mumbles something so Lucy asks "what was that Natsu?"
"Ummm can I come with you?" Natsu asks blushing.
"Sure I need help moving. A big strong dragon like yourself could be a lot of help. Thanks," Natsu blushes even more. He then picks up three of her six boxes and jumps out of her tower window flying the three to the ground. Lucy picks up the remaining three boxes and descends the stairs meeting Natsu at the bottom. "Hurry up and hide your wings Natsu, nobody will suspect anything if you act casual," this statement just makes Natsu more nervous.

They both make it to the carriage where Lucy confronts her dad. She explains what Natsu is and that he would never cause harm to the kingdom. The King just nods in his direction. Eavesdropping Natsu hears "he's just there to protect me, like another Erza," at the name Erza, Natsu shivers slightly, such a scary name for a person. After hugging her father good bye for now Lucy gets in the carriage and motions for Natsu to come in too. As soon as Natsu gets into the carriage he falls over green faced.

"I'm gonna barf," he stutters
"Motion sickness ehh?!" Lucy does the merciful thing and knocks him out cold. She rides to the village all her boxes stacked up in the back of the carriage. As soon as they stop at Strawberry Street Natsu jumps out of the carriage and kisses the ground, relieved.

"I'm never gonna ride in one of those death traps again!!!" Natsu exclaims. Lucy bursts out in laughter at the once mighty dragon.

"Thanks for the help Natsu, but I think I can handle it now. My new apartment is right here and I can carry most of the boxes up myself," Lucy tells Natsu as she starts unloading the carriage. After all the boxes are on the ground she thanks the carriage driver and he drives away, but Natsu doesn't move. "hey Natsu, I said thanks for visiting if you have anywhere else to go today I won't be keeping you."
"I have no other human friends here and no place to go. The search for my father has only brought me a bunch of dead ends, but I won't give up. Thank you for letting me see your new apartment I'll be sure to visit sometime later," Natsu says. He gives one last look at the girl who he so wanted to have as his own, but sprouts wings and starts flying away.
"Wait Natsu!" Lucy calls after her dragon friend. He looks back at her scales covering his face. "here I made this for when I hopes we could meet again," she hands Natsu a wristband made of black silk. He slips it onto his hand and smiles
"Thanks a lot Luigi!" he hands her his signature white scarf. She scowls back at him,
"ITS LUCY, and you shouldn't lend me your scarf, keep it that way when you find Igneel he'll recognize you." she wraps it back around the dragon's neck as he turns fully into dragon form. She looks into his eyes and pecks him on the cheek. "thanks for inspiring me Natsu Dragneel," the pink scaled dragon takes off into the air with the black silk wristband hung on his claw. He smiles a toothy grin at his blonde friend and flies off thinking only of the way her lips felt on his cheek.
