Crestfallen
I've seen that look before,
one of sadness and dispise.
I wish I could help that girl,
the one with the crestfallen eyes.
Once an ingénue,
has now been broken by cruel words.
Used to believe in everything,
now her beliefs are in shards.
Who do you think you are
to beleaguer her like that,
leaving her to brood her ephemeral joy.
You had no right,
who said you might
go around crushing that you couldn't have?
Lift up your heads,
look into my eyes.
Don't let them break you,
their acts were only acts of longing in disguise.
