The gun the man carried was immediatly picked up Kathy, who had empty hands, and George declared that he would take the next received weapon. They hid against the wall of the building and looked down the adjacent street and saw just a few people running on the opposing streets and alleyways. Alex turned to Claire, nodded, and stormed from behind his cover.
His guns poised, he remained silent watching the men kill one another as he crossed the street with extreme caution. He performed a somersault to ensure his safety behind another building across the street. He waved his hands towards the rest of the group to show that it was safe to slowly walk across. As the first members began to cross, Alex wiped all the dirt and dust from his knees and legs. He remained as a guard, watching over the group members that crossed safely, and frequently checking if anybody had gotten curious about the group members making their way across the street.
When the whole group had made it across, they advanced further down the trashed street. Overturned cars and decomposing bodies littered the roads, and an awful stench arose from the sewer system and bodies. They ducked into a ripped apart convenience store with a ripped apart back wall, making a transport rather easy through a city block without using a road. They were already making progress, advancing further south towards the wharf they had fought so desperatly to reach. After exiting the store, they were greeted with gunfire in their direction.
Alex, Claire, and Kathy all stood up and took action, firing back at the men, who, after a matter of minutes, collapsed to the ground, and died.
"That was three. Three of you go forward and grab those weapons." Alex commanded.
George, Chad, and Darwin ran forward, leaving Angela and Samantha, panting and dripping in sweat in the heat of the day. Shots came firing from the adjacent road, and Darwin was quick to respond, jumping up with a shotgun in hand, firing at the stranger in the barracks. The man collapsed in an explosion of blood, and Darwin exclaimed, "I killed someone."
"It's alright. You're gonna have to." Alex assured him. Darwin looked at Alex and smiled.
The group continued running further down the street, but an explosion erupted a block south of their position, so they began to move onto a street that traveled from east to west. The group rushed through a demolished building in order to stay off the street for a moment, but that proved too dangerous, for the roof began ti crack and make odd noises that indicated that a fall was imminent. They ran onto the street on the other side of the building, and fired at three men that were opposite them. The men's bullets hit the walls that lay behind Alex and Kathy, and they fired directly upwards after being shot in the chest.
Angela, Samantha, and Brittany rushed forward to grab their guns, and took aim at the next two men they saw. Wearing tattered clothing, they raised their guns and fired round after round at the group, but the bullets didn't find their mark. After a failed attempt, Angela and Samantha ran to the back of the group to conserve ammunition, and allowed George and Chad to move to the front of the group. They fired at the two men, and found their target quicker than expected.
"We've moved only two blocks and we're dealing with this!?" Darwin screamed looking at his map with the protection of the other members of the group. "Keep going straight. We'll get there faster. This isn't a major street."
"Got it." George said from the front of the group.
They started to jump over debris and barriers in order to continue on the road, and the destroyed line of buildings heading east offered a great view of the wrecked downtown.
A roar erupted from the sky, and Alex directed his attention to above. Two military grade fighter jets flew over their head in the blink of an eye, and the sound of bombs dropping stabbed at the eardrums. They looked towards where the fighter jets had dropped the bombs, but it was too late.
A fireball erupted from the heart of the financial district, engulfing all buildings in an enormous flame. The ground where the group stood shook like crazy, and in the distance, the mighty TransAmerica tower toppled and crashed to the ground in an explosion of dust and fire. A shockwave blasted past the group and dust flew everywhere.
"Get inside!" He screamed through the chaos. In the blindness of the dust storm, Alex barely managed to locate a nearby stable building, but when he looked back outside, he didn't the group. The group eventually made their way to the destined building, just as the dust of another building shot through the sky.
However, when the noise stopped, a new farmiliar sound echoed through the portion of the house behind them.
A groan.
Alex pointed his gun to where he heard the groan, and began firing. The light from the bullet illuminated the room, causing the horrid figure of a member of the undead to show itself. Blood sprayed from it's mouth as it's jaw was shredded into pieces.
Another groan emerged from the darkness, and the group poised their weapons to prepare for the next attack.
