KATHY
I stood there, at the back of the boat next to Alex's body, looking at the distant silhouette of the Golden Gate Bridge with the sun setting behind me. Darwin walked up behind me and rested his hand on my shoulder. "I can't believe he hasn't gone crazy!" He told me.

"I know." I responded. "But I don't want to check if he's still breathing because he told me I shouldn't."

"If you won't then I will, because it's hurting my head right now." He said. He rushed forward and placed his hand on Alex's neck, which was horrifically deteriorated. I sat patiently waiting for his response.

He pulled his hand back with a look of astonishment, and said, "Holy shit! He's still..."

He was interrupted by a gigantic flash of light in the direction of San Francisco, and after the light subsided, a mushroom cloud erupted from the flash. I looked back at the rest of the group, and they all looked in astonishment at the massive blast.

After a few moments, the captain came down from his steering room. "My God laddies. We're the last ones."
