I haven't actually talked to Laura about what she said, after she said it. I'm drawn to her but I'm still resisting. She hasn't come to make conversations with me either. She obviously keeps avoiding me because whenever I look at her, she looks away and leaves. I'm going crazy because of her and this new distance between us. Especially now that I admitted to myself I feel something else than friendship for her.
My opinion on the two of us together still hasn't changed and I found myself attending parties again and getting drunk just to, I don't know, wash her out of my brain or something. She's still stuck in my head, my heart and my sight. Wherever I go, I see her. It's hard but they say the pain of falling in love is actually worth it. Let's wait and see.
My hands tremble as I bring the cup to my lips. It's my first cup for the night. My eyes catch a glimpse of very familiar brunette hair in the corner.
"Is that Laura? ", I ask quietly and nod towards the girl who's back is facing me.
"Yeah. I think she's here with someone. ", Cole says.
"Of course she is. Nobody goes to parties alone. "
"No. I meant someone as in a guy. I'm not really sure if they're dating but the rumors are there. "
My eyes travel up and down her figure and get stuck at her bottom a little longer than appropriate. It looks great in those tight blue jeans. I bite the inside of my cheek and my eyes travel up to the ceiling and roll back to Cole, pretending they didn't look where they weren't supposed to.
"Whatever. ", I look down.
If she's dating someone and I find out about it, I'm going to go crazy. How dare she say she loves me and then date another guy? She is confusing me. This is exactly why I never wanted to be with her. I suck at relationships and I can't figure them out. It seems more like an obligation than relaxation.
Rydel's messages get stuck in my brain. Is she here with the guy that gave her that bouqet?
"You are kinda staring at her. ", Cole notices. A huge toothy grin grows on my face.
"You see that hot thing over there? ", I point to Laura's blonde friend, Kayla. "That's what I'm going to be working on tonight. See ya. "
I start pacing towards them.
"Wait. What? Why would you.. Oh. I get it. Ross, don't do this. You'll make things worse. ", Cole warns me. I shrug and grab one full cup of whiskey from the counter.
"It can't get worse than this. "
I walk over to Laura and Kayla and subtly lay my elbow on Kayla's shoulder. The girls turn to look at me and their eyes grow wide.
"What's up Kay, Laura? ", I smile and hand the whiskey to Kayla. "Have a drink? "
Kayla smiles at me and gives a small nod before taking the cup. I twirl a piece of her hair between my finger.
"You guys are having fun? ", I say lowly, still staring at the blonde.
Kayla glances at Laura who's face I can't quite see and back into my eyes.
"Um yeah. You? "
"Sure am. It can always get more interesting though ", I crook an eyebrow at Kayla and notice a bright shade of red covering her cheeks.
"What are you talking about? "
"I'm saying we could hang out. ", I tell her. She fumbles with words.
"I'm leaving. ", Laura awkwardly says and gets away.
"Yeah, well, you don't have the balls to stay and watch this. You should really man up, Laur. You know? "
