QUESTION FOR TODAY: Sleep or food? (I know, I'm evil)
I awoke to a low buzz.
I was sprawled unflatteringly across an unfamiliar bed. At first, panic overwhelmed me; I had no recollections of days prior. Disorientation draped over me like a suffocating blanket and I brought my knees up to my chest, hyperventilating.
"You're okay, Thea. I'm here."
Damien's arms wrapped around me and I closed my eyes, warm in his embrace. Everything felt right, and my qualms bled into nothingness. His words soothed me.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Well, after you... walked in on me and Leila, you collapsed. The doctor suspected it was because of your period and the stress of seeing me with another." he explained.
It was then that I stilled in his arms. "Please let go of me."
"What?" He asked in bemusement.
I didn't need to explain twice. Reluctantly, he let his arms drop. I stood up on shaky legs and, after brushing off my disorientation, walked towards the door. As soon as my hand clasped around the door knob Damien had me pinned against the wall, encircled by his arms.
"No can do, little one. I have strict orders from Doctor Raine to keep you here until she comes back, and no one rebels against her word. Not even me." he smirked.
"Well my new name is 'no one' I guess, because I'm a growing girl and need food." I huffed indignantly.
Raising an eyebrow, he swung me over his shoulder and jogged downstairs. "Let me go!"
A part of me screamed in protest. I was supposed to be resilient and unrelenting in the face of my mate; he had kissed another girl, and blatantly disregarded the fact that he had wronged me. However, my heart was singing in delirious elation at his touch.
I pounded his back with my fists, eliciting a laugh from my mate. "Your hands are tiny."
"Not as tiny as your di-"
I hastily clamped my mouth shut at the sight of a little boy. He was watching me with a lazy grin, as if amused by my compromising position. I stuck my tongue out at him and he giggled.
"Little brother, meet my little mate. Little mate, meet small child." Damien introduced us.
I craned my head uncomfortably. 'Small child' blushed and waved. "Hi, little mate."
I laughed. "My name is Thea, but you can call me T for short."
"I'm Sam," he offered me a toothy smile.
Damien tenderly lifted me off of his back and onto solid turf. I swayed in his arms, dizzy.
"How come I can't call you T?" he asked, smiling crookedly.
I folded my arms across my chest. "You're yet to earn that right."
"And how would I do that?" He asked, moving closer.
"Stop being an idiot." I deadpanned.
The atmosphere darkened immediately. It was as if my playful words evoked something far more sinister, and I fought the urge to cower.
