QUESTION FOR TODAY: Who's your favourite character?

My arms shielded the baby from the sharp shards of glass as we fell, tumbling aimlessly through the air. Everything seemed to slow down as I spiralled towards the ground, clutching the new-born child with desperate fervency.

Remember me.

Chrissy's soft words floated through my mind, as light as the air I was tumbling through. I closed my eyes and braced myself for impact, although I felt nothing. No sharp pain, no numbness, nothing. I was still as achingly aware of my imminent death as I was a few seconds prior.

Surely I should have landed by now. Unless this is heaven, and that's a pretty shit do...or it's hell. This makes a lot more sense, considering I used to dunk my innocent brother's head in cat urine and say I was 'christening him with holy water'. Either way, I was not impressed. Mr Big G can and should do better.

"Thea?"

Damien's husky voice shattered all of my prior assumptions and I looked down at him. I was no longer falling- in fact, I was hovering precariously in mid-air, just a few metres off of the ground. I screamed in fear and, as I did so, the spell seemed to break and I landed on solid turf with a thud.

The baby in my arms was unscathed. I sighed in relief, thrust him into the arms of a bystander and scrambled upright, visibly distressed. By some stroke of luck, I had survived my dance with death. I was oblivious to the fire that still raged behind me and instead regarded my mate with wide eyes.

"I'm not dead, am I?" I asked, stumbling over my words.

"Not as far as I can see." he replied, regarding me with wide eyes.

I was about to offer a witty reply, but he silenced me with a bone crushing hug. He nuzzled my neck and I sighed, allowing myself to enjoy the moment.

"Alpha? What do we do about the fire?" Jake interrupted our tender moment with an awkward cough.

Damien cursed in realisation and immediately bolted in the opposite direction, sifting through his belongings until he found a phone.

"Don't think this means I have forgiven you!" I shouted, trying to make light of the situation. "You're still a disgusting man whore!"

He just raised an eyebrow in response. Jake and I stood beside each other and watched as the fire consumed the entirety of the building, blackening the surrounding grass. I was still upset and bemused; surely, I should be dead. Fire had singed my clothes, yet apart from being shaken up, I was unhurt.

"What's wrong with me?" I asked.

"Multiple things." Jake hummed. "But on a serious note? I have no idea."

"I should be dead," I muttered, allowing the tears to fall down my cheeks. "I just evaded death. It's wrong."

"I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, T. I'm not saying what happened was normal, but you shouldn't question fate." Jake smiled, wrapping an arm around my waist.

Instead of rebuking his affectionate gesture, I leant into his touch and sighed. My mate, who had wandered off to make a phone call, was staring at us from afar. At that moment, I couldn't bring myself to care what he thought. It had been Jake who had saved me, whilst Damien had chosen to make Leila his priority. If he was prepared to choose her over me, then he would have to deal with the consequences.

"Alpha Damien is staring at us." Jake muttered.

"Let him stare. He can ogle for all I care." I replied.
