warning: this chapter talks about domestic abuse and abusive relationships. if you aren't comfortable with that, please don't read it! i love you all so much. :))
on to the rant...
so i was watching an episode of 'what would you do' where they had a guy and a girl pretend to be dating and the guy started pretending to be abusive to see what people would do about it.
now, this is something that really hits home with me because when i was still in middle and high school, let's just say i had a really shitty taste in guys. thankfully i got out of those situations, but there are people that right now feel like they can't leave, and to those people i say stay strong and i wish you all the best.
in the middle of watching this show, though, my friend says 'well if your boyfriend is abusive, then just leave him.'
this makes me so, so mad and i have heard people say this literally millions of times but let me tell you this; if you haven't been through it yourself, than you can't say shit. you have no idea what goes on in the minds of people who actually do go through this. i can tell by your ignorance that you don't understand what it's like even in the slightest bit, so shut the fuck up.
it's not as simple as "just leaving" or breaking up with them and no, it's not as simple as "just" calling the police. and you have absolutely no fucking clue.
telling someone in an abusive relationship to "just leave" is like telling an alcoholic to "just stop drinking." it doesn't work that way you asshole.
now, i'm not in anyway encouraging that people stay with their abusers, i'm just saying that it's not as easy as all of these idiots apparently think it is.
and i'm sorry for making a rant on such a sensitive topic but it needed to be said. i see this way too much. if you haven't been there, don't act like you know everything there is to know, okay?
