Chapter 2 – Shock, Terror, and I’m What?

I groaned as I awoke; my body stiff and sore. Slowly, I opened my eyes and looked about myself. I was in a bunk bed of sorts, but it was dark. I felt around for a light switch…but my hand went through what I thought had been a wall.

“Ah, doc…I think she’s waking up…” I heard an unfamiliar female voice say quietly.

The curtain I’d put my hand threw was drawn back and I winced as fluorescent light filtered down into my eyes.

“You’re not wrong,” a male voice replied. I looked up… it was the man that had chased me. I felt myself freeze. My eyes darted around my surroundings, taking in as much as I could as I planned my escape. “It’s alright,” the man continued. “Here we go.” He helped me to sit and swing my legs over the edge of the bunk. He held up a small torch to my eyes, testing my reactions and I hissed, turning away from the bright light. “I’m sorry…the change occasionally makes the young ones photosensitive…it’ll pass.”

I swallowed fearfully, willing myself to speak. “Wh-where am I?”

“Now, you must remain calm, young one…” the guy held out his hands in a non-threatening gesture…or so he thought. “This early after the change it is important to keep emotional outbursts to a minimum.”

“Remain calm!” I screeched as I stood and backed away from him a few paces. “Don’t you dare fucking tell me to remain calm! You’ve drugged me, kidnapped me, and done God knows what else!” I felt my heart beating rapidly against my rib cage as hysteria set in. “Where the fuck am I?!”

“You’re in America…” the girl replied, eyeing me carefully. “Canton, Ohio, to be precise…in a band’s tour bus.” she smiled at me a little. “Hi…I’m Cassie…I’m with Ryan.”

“So there’s three of you in on this?!” I felt myself starting to shake.

“There’s a whole clan of us, dearie.” The man who’d chased me replied. “I’m doctor Felton…and there really are some things you need to know about the change.”

“Change? What Change?!” I felt as if an icy hand had clenched itself around my heart. My tongue brushed against my teeth slightly and my hand flew to my mouth, feeling my teeth. They were a lot sharper than I remembered…especially my canines. It was then I noticed the dull ache in my throat; I pointed at them both accusingly, screaming, on the brink of tears. “What have you done to me?! Why have you brought me here?!”

“You have been changed into a vampire!” Doctor Felton yelled back at me. “This has been done because you are the only soul that was a match for…” he paused. “It is of no importance at the moment, you will meet your mate soon enough…and you will fall in love and marry.” He let out a great huff. “Let us just explain it all now…and you can freak out after we’re done. Okay?”

“The boys will be back soon…the gig’s almost over…” Cassie said nervously.

“Which is why we must be quick…some adjustment will be needed in order to process her situation.” Doctor Felton nodded and continued. “You are a newborn vampire. Your emotions will run high and fast. You will discover that your body…and, to an extent, your mind will have changed somewhat. Your senses will sharpen, you’ll become faster and stronger after you’ve fed and consummated the relationship between yourself and your mate as well.”

My head spun. This was not happening…I had to be dreaming…please let me be dreaming. “This…is not possible.” I murmured as I leant back against the wall nearest me.

“It is…myths about us though are…not entirely true though.” Cassie smirked. “We invented most of the vampiric myths so we could move more freely in society.” When I looked at her, confused, she continued. “I mean…garlic doesn’t repel us, we have reflections, we can walk around by day, crosses don’t protect you from our approach…things like that.”
