Chapter 7 – Reasoned Longing {Chris POV}
I smirked as Angie sniffed the cup of blood Manson had given her. She was adorable in her still being squeamish about drinking blood…it would pass though. I watched her hesitantly put the cup to her lips and sipped. Her eyes closed and she drank more easily. God I wanted her.
I thought back to the shower…what I’d almost done to her…
‘She wanted to mark you earlier too, remember?’ I heard Manson’s voice in my head and raised an eyebrow at him. ‘And she didn’t want you to stop.’ He smiled a little as he looked back at Angie, watching as she went to look at Manson’s endless shelves of books. ‘I guess absence really does make the heart grow fonder…’
‘I would have taken her though…her first time shouldn’t be like that…in a shower still regaining strength after nearly…’ I let the though drift away, shuddering at what could’ve happened had I not arrived when I had. ‘And your reminder about the wedding night didn’t exactly help.’
'Actually, it did, as it turns out.’ Manson folded his arms. ‘You did exactly as I predicted to her that you would…’ I looked at him, confused. ‘I told her you wouldn’t ‘fuck’ her…I know you’re not like that…’
I smirked. ‘Well…not until the mating pull overrode any hesitant feelings still residing within her anyway.’
‘Yes,’ Manson smirked too. ‘Eventually, they all like us to be rough with them, don’t they?’ he winked at me and I chuckled darkly.
Angie turned to face us and looked at me questioningly. I shook my head and smiled gently, patting the seat next to me. She bit her lip nervously, her cheeks darkening a shade, and I felt the animal inside me growl in approval. I wanted nothing more than to pin her beneath me on the couch and sink into her heat… ‘Patience, Chris…’ I thought to myself as she came to sit by me, fiddling with her hair shyly. ‘Patience.’
“You must have a million questions spinning through your head, Angie…” Manson smiled down at the two of us. “I’ll leave you two be so that you can ask Chris all those embarrassing questions you know I can hear.” He winked her as she blushed, turned on his heel, and left.
I shook my head at him and gave Angie a knowing smile. “So…what did you want to know?”

{Angie POV}
I swallowed nervously. “Um…well…” I looked down at my lap, wringing my hands.
Chris tilted my chin up gently, looking into my eyes and making me blush. “Well?” he gave me a small, encouraging smile.
I bit my lip as I tried to single out a question to ask him. “Well…” I looked towards the bookshelves and licked my dry lips, trying to ignore the sparks his touch was creating beneath me skin. “Marilyn has…ah…said things and…he has a lot of books…supposedly explaining,” I gestured to myself and then Chris. “All this…but I don’t understand some of your world’s…” I paused and held up my hands making sarcastic quotation marks in the air. “Concepts.”
Chris smirked, looking down briefly. “Say what you’re thinking…” he frowned a little. “All I’m getting from our link is a picture in a book…”
I looked towards the bookshelves again and blushed. “What’s…what’s marking?”
Chris chuckled lightly, running his thumb across my bottom lip, making me tremble slightly. “Marking is when a vampire marks their mate as theirs and no one else’s…it’s a rather…intimate affair.” He smirked at me, his eyes daring me to look into his mind and see what he meant. When I didn’t he leant in closer; his lips brushed against mine lightly and my eyes closed as he trailed his lips along my jawline to my ear. “It’s done with a bite.” He whispered, nipping my ear lightly, holding back the moan his voice inspired in me. “During mid-orgasm…” I froze momentarily as his lips pulled back over his teeth to graze his fangs lightly down my neck. He stopped just where my pulse beat wildly, “Usually just… here…” he laved his tongue against my now over sensitized skin and I just couldn’t hold back a moan of pleasure.
As Chris continued to kiss my neck, I frowned slightly. “Usually?”
He chuckled darkly. “The more traditional of us would mark you here,” he murmured against my throat, his hand tilting my head back to allow him better access as his kiss travelled down further. “But, someone like me might…mark a more intimate area.” His voice was low and seductive, and made a shiver run up my spine.
‘That voice should be termed illegal!’ I thought as he nipped at my collar bone, pushing me back down onto the couch. He chuckled again, hearing my thoughts clearly this time.
“There’s nothing legal about what I want to do to you…” he murmured; a moment later I gasped as he pulled down my shirt and took one taut nipple into his mouth. I moaned and my hands entangled themselves in his hair, pulling him closer to me.
“Ahem…” I heard Marilyn and jumped, fixing my shirt and pushing Chris away faster than a bullet from a gun. Blushing like crazy I made to get up and run from the room but Chris’s arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me back into his lap. “This is ‘question and answer time’, Chris…not ‘make the poor girl insane with need’ time.” Marilyn looked pointedly at Chris before smirking at me as I crossed my legs. “It’s no use doing that dearie. I could smell your arousal from the other end of the house.” His smile turned smug as I hid my face in Chris’s shoulder. “You left a part out of that explanation though…”
I looked up at Chris as he sighed. “I know…” he replied, his grip on my waist tightening.
“She needs to know it can’t be not done.” Marilyn gave me a piercing look, making my heart flutter anxiously.
“What don’t I know?” I asked, leaning away from Chris slightly to better look him in the eye. “Chris?”
He pulled me to him again and kissed my forehead tenderly. “Marking is generally done…” he paused.
“On our…” I closed my eyes. “Wedding night?”
“Yeah…” he continued hesitantly. “Kind of a ‘two birds with one stone’ thing.”
“Consummate the marriage…relationship…” I huffed at my inability to form sentences whilst he was holding me. “Whatever you wanna call it…and mark your mate at the same time…I get it…so, what’s the part I’m missing?”
“You we’re meant to do all that about, er…” Marilyn looked up for a moment and then fixed his gaze on me. “Four months ago…leaving it longer than a month after meeting your destined mate can make things more…” he looked at Chris warningly. “Brutal…the stronger…and older of the two increasing their dominance over the other…” he smirked a little and shrugged. “Some people like that though.”
I paled. “Oh…”
“In your case…” Marilyn looked at me with pity. “This may not be a good thing…”
I stood and glared daggers at Marilyn. “I’m not as weak as you seem to think.” I growled, turning on my heel and walking to the window. I looked down and saw Cassie and Ryan looking up. Cassie gave me the thumbs up and I sighed. “I’ve been beaten by this fear once…but I’ll be damned if I let it control my life again!”
