Give Me A Song

As much as Tim wanted to be finished with the song for Gin, he was having writer's block. And crazily, the one person who could help him out probably wouldn't even answer the phone for him. Missy had already left for the night and was probably somewhere knocked out. Static was out on a date with his baby mama. G couldn't write a song to save his life. Aaliyah always knew how to fix his dilemma.

He sucked it up and dialed her number. She answered after four rings, sounding as if she was sleep.

"Hello?"

"Damn girl. You sleep?"

"It's 2:47 in the morning Tim. What else would I be doing?"

"Partying. Living it up in Cali."

"Boy, whatever. What you want? Interrupting my sleep."

"I need your help."

"I should hang up on you for your rudeness earlier."

"I do need to apologize for that. My bad. You know you put a brother in his feelings."

"Yeah but you always seem to hurt mine."

"Aww, Lili. I'm sorry. If I was there I'd kiss it to make it better."

"Don't you worry. You can make it up to me when I get home."

"That don't sound bad at all. In fact, we can-"

Awww hell naw! Yall not 'bout to do that while I'm sitting here!"

Tim covered the phone and threw a pillow at G.

"Man shut up. There's 8 other rooms in this house."

"EWWWW!"

Aaliyah was on the phone smiling.

"Tell G I'm sorry."

"Bump him. He shouldn't be in grown folks business anyway."

"Okay, what do you have so far?"

And just like that. His inspiration and creativity came back to him and before he knew it, him and Liyah had finished the song, came up with a melody and background vocal arrangements.

"Lee, I haven't felt like this in a long time."

"Me either."

"When do you come home?"

"In 3 days."

"Why couldn't you drive out there?"

"Tim, let's be real. That could be just as bad. Car accidents are more gruesome."

"Whatever. I just hate that you do so much traveling."

She knew how he felt. Although it aggravated her, she understood what the incident a couple years back did to him.

"Baby, it's getting late and I got to get an earlier start. I'll call you when I wake up okay?"

"Okay. I love you Aaliyah."

"I love you too Timothy."

They smiled as they both hung up the phone. G was sitting there with a big cheesy grin.

"Now wasn't that beautiful?"

"Man, go to hell! Let's finish this song!"

They laughed while they laid down G's vocals. The song was dope as hell! After they finished, G went home and Tim closed down all the equipment before heading to their bedroom. When he got inside, he couldn't help but smile at him and Aaliyah's wedding picture. They had smashed cake in each other's faces. No matter where they were, they always found a way to make it fun.

He wanted them to get back to that. He wanted the feeling that he had tonight on the phone to come back. To be able to call up his baby girl and make music with her. As the days went by, he got more and more excited about the retreat. Even though it would take him away from production, he knew they needed it. Hell, if it got him his best friend back, he was all down for it.

He took a quick shower and got dressed for bed. He sent one last text to Aaliyah before closing his eyes, hoping it will be the first thing she sees in the morning.

"I know that I may be an ass sometimes, but I love you. I love you, I need you and want you. Please always remember that. Be safe and make it back to me. Good luck with the shoot. - Tim"
