Wilbur Watkins, LMFT, looked at the man and woman in his office. They were stubborn, angry, proud and in love. They were also hurting. He sighed and took off his glasses. This was going to be another long night."Mr. and Mrs. Mosley, we have to-"
"Listen man, no offense, but I got a studio session that I need to get to."
Wilbur rolled his eyes before his attention snapped to the woman sitting with her arms crossed as she laughed snidely.
"Of course, always running and hiding in the studio."
"I don't run from shit-
Wilbur had enough.
"MR. and MRS. MOSLEY!! If you want me to continue being your therapist, this has GOT to STOP!!!"
They turned their attention to Wilbur, noting the change in his skin color. They looked at each other before rolling their eyes. She sat back in the chair and closed her eyes. He looked between the therapist and his wife, softening a little. It hurt him to see how their relationship had come to this point and knew that he was partly to blame.
She felt eyes on her and turned to look at him. They stared at each other, both caught up in the other's eyes. It was killing her not to be able to touch him or kiss on him like she'd grown so used to doing over the years.
Wilbur noticed the stare contest and sat back in his chair. The only reason he hadn't kicked them out of his office and dropped them as clients yet was because of a couple of things. One, he and his family are big fans of them both. Two, they paid him really great money. So much so, that he could probably live off having them as clients alone. And three, he could see the love and admiration they had for each other. Unfortunately, a few turn of events, misunderstandings and plain stubbornness was causing them unnecessary pain and friction.
He wanted to help them. So after a week of constant studying, he decided to try a different approach with them.
"Now that you two are not at each other's throats, there is a reason I called you all here."
They looked at Wilbur in anticipation.
She wanted desperately to have her best friend and love of her life back. He wanted his baby and his lifeline back. They both wanted the same thing but didn't know how to get it all back.
Wilbur looked between the two and took a deep breath.
"It came to me and Doctor Listor's attention that you two have too much distractions around you to give time and attention to find the root of your problem and eliminate it. We came up with the idea of taking you both on a retreat."
He could tell by the looks on their faces that the idea was not sitting well with them. Just as Mr. Mosley was getting ready to speak, Wilbur held up his hand. He didn't want to hear it.
"Mr. Mosley, I'm afraid that I'm almost at my wits end with you two. Now, if you two reject this, I'll have no choice but to drop you as clients and severe all ties to you all professionally. Lord knows, I'd hate to do that since I love you both."
They looked at each other after that. She sighed before looking at Wilbur.
"How long will the retreat be and where?"
He smiled. Out of the two, she was the easiest to reach. A beauty even at the age of 34, she was still as amazing as she was at the age of 15. If she wasn't married and his girlfriend's best friend, he'd sweep her off her feet. He snapped out of it when he heard Mr. Mosley clear his throat. He took his eyes off her to see her husband with his eyebrows raised. Wilbur cleared his throat.
"The retreat will be in the Bahamas and it will be two weeks long."
When the words finally left his mouth, he was met with rejection. He knew it was coming but he refused to back down.
"Are you kidding me?! Two weeks?! The premiere of Empire Season 4 is coming up!"
"Yeah, I have a new movie to work on and my clothing line is getting ready to launch its summer collection!"
They were both so busy. This trip would be perfect for them.
"You both have partners that are fully capable of taking over for you both. I'm afraid that this trip is not negotiable."
Wilbur rubbed the tip of his nose with a napkin, as he noticed the glare from them both. She rolled her eyes before asking a follow up question.
"Who all will be there?"
He smiled, this is where he knew they might warm up to the idea.
"Well, I'm glad you both asked. Myself and Kidada will be joining you so that I can be hands on during the therapy process. Amanda and Rashad have also agreed to come."
The couple both looked more at ease by the other couples who would be joining them. She pulled out her phone and typed a message while biting on her lip. At the same time, his phone rung. He stepped out to answer it. She rolled her eyes, huffed and sat back in her seat. Wilbur was about to say something to her when her husband walked back in to the room hurriedly.
"Aye man, there's a issue going on at the studio. I have to go."
Wilbur was about to object when she held up her hand.
"No, let him go. I have somethings to take care myself. I'm in for the trip."
As she got up and prepared to leave, Wilbur looked to Mr. Mosley.
"Tim, are you in as well?"
"Yeah man, yeah. Count me in."
He watched as they both left out of the room and shook his head. This was going to be one wild trip.
"Sharon!"
"Yes Mr. Watkins?"
"Please take a message for any calls that I have for the rest of the evening. I'm leaving a bit earlier."
"Yes sir. Is everything alright?"
"Yes. Just a slight headache."
As he made his way out of the office, he saw the Mosleys getting into separate cars. They barely paid each other another glance before rushing off to their destinations. He couldn't wait to find a resolution for their situation.
"What the fuck have I got myself into?"
