"Mommy! Mommy!" Jessie yelled as she ran up to me.
"Yes baby girl" I replied.
"Mommy! I'm not a baby."
"Okay sweet heart, you're a big girl. Why were you calling me?"
"Daddy said that we are going out for ice cream."
"Oh really?" I said as J walked in the room with a smile on his face. I looked at him and shook my head. Even after 7 years of marriage he still has the same smile on his face when he thinks about ice cream. Jessie just turned 4 last month. J and I decided to name her after the place where we met. She's the light of our lives.
"Can Aunty Jo come with us?" Jessie asks
"I'll call her and you can ask."
Joanna and I have been inseparable since the day we met. We even got an apartment together when I went to college. She's more than my sister, she's my best friend. Jo became a dentist while I became a physical therapist. It was a lot of work but we both made it. J went to bible college and is now the assistant pastor of the church we go to. He's the love of my life and I wouldn't trade him for the world."Aunty Jo! We're getting ice cream, do you wanna come?" Jessie asks after Jo picks up the phone. The smile on her face becomes large and I know that Jo says yes. J grabs the keys and we all head over to Jo's to pick her up. We go out to eat ice cream.
We were sitting at a table in comfortable silence, enjoying our ice cream. I decided it was time. "I have a surprise." I said. Joanna and Joshua looked at me in expectation. "Do you have a pet monkey mommy?" Jessie asked still looking down at her ice cream. I chuckled "No Jess." I tickled her lightly on her sides and she giggles and squirms a bit. "I'm pregnant." I said waiting for a response. Jo stared at me with her jaw dropped. J looked at me with a huge grin but it disappeared after a few seconds. "What's wrong babe?" I asked him. "How could I have not noticed this?" He shook his head then looked back up to me and smiled "It better be a boy or else were trying for a third" He said. I laughed and said "in your dreams" He fake pouted at me. Joanna was still speachless. "Mommy what does pomegranate mean?" Jessie asked. I chuckled at her wrong use of words. "Pregnant means that there's a baby growing in my tummy and you're going to have a little brother or sister." I explained.
"I knew it" Jo finally said. "You've been glowing for a couple of weeks." I laughed at her statement. "What? I'm serious." She said. "That's what makes it so funny." I say trying to hold in my laughter. She just shook her head and kept eating. I love my family. I wound trade them for the world.
