CHAPTER SEVEN: "Too bad. They're daughter is not. I would've loved that more."
"We're here," deklara ni Vanessa nang maihinto ni Iev ang kotse nito sa harap ng gate ng bahay nila.
Naunang lumabas si Iev para pagbuksan siya."T-thank you."
That little boyish gesture may mean nothing to him, but any woman, any woman in the world would appreciate that one single gent-act. Her hear melted.
He gave her his famous million-dollar smile."Pleasure is mi--."
Sabay silang napalingon sa isang itim na sasakyang kakaparada lang sa harap ng gate nila. The car beeped twice signalling the people inside the house to open the gate.
"My parents," sambit niya.
Ilang segundo pa bago bumukas ang gate. Much to her surprise, hindi tuluyang pumasok ang sasakyan. Bagkus, lumabas pa ang isa sa mga sakay niyon.
"Mom," she uttered, recognizing the woman who's approaching them.
"Hija." Her mother hugged and kissed her daughter."Oh. We're barely late for ..." Her Mom's words trailed off when she saw the man behind her daughter's back. She then gave a mischievous smile to Vanessa."I see you have brought in company, dear."
Napalingon siya kay Iev. She can see no sign of fright.
"Good evening, Madam," magalang pa ngang bati ni Iev sa kanyang ina.
"Good evening, Hijo," her mother greeted back, smiling."Would you like to join us for dinner?"
Vanie grimaced. Giving her mother a warning tone."Mom."
"Or ... Would you like to stay forever?"
"Mom!" Nanlaki na ang mga mata niya sa sinabi ng kanyang ina.
"What?" her mother asked innocently.
Napairap nalang siya. It was too obvious her Mom's teasing her. Probably because, Iev's the very first guy man enough to take her home or to even have the guts to show himself to her parents.
Much to her chagrin, Iev just laughed to her mother's joke."It'd be an honor, Madam. But--"
"Oh, hijo. I don't take no for an answer." Naglakad na pabalik sa sasakyan ang kanyang ina."Mauuna na kami ng Daddy mo sa loob, hija. You two, come follow, okay?" Pumasok na ito sa itim na Subaru XV. Sumunod ay ang pagpasok naman ng sasakyan sa loob ng bakuran ng bahay nila.
"Your Mom's nice," kapagkuwan ay komento ng binatang nasa likuran niya.
She turned to see him."Pagpasensyahan mo na lang ang Mommy ko. Nabigla lang siguro 'yon."
Kumunot ang noo nito."Nabigla?"
"Yep. Siguro dahil ikaw pa lang ang kauna-unahang lalake na naghatid sakin pauwi dito sa bahay."
His smile widened."I'm happy to know that, Van."
Sandali siyang natigilan sa sinabi nito ngunit kapagkuwa'y binalewala nalang iyon."So, ahm ... Would you like to go inside for dinner?" alanganing tanong niya."Piprituhin ako ng buhay ni Mommy kapag pumunta ako doong hindi ka kasama." She smirked as she tried to envision her mother's face and her non-stop nagging if Iev still refused to join them for dinner.
Iev slipped his hands to his pockets."Kung ganoon, sa akin pala nakasalalay ang buhay mo ngayon?"
She glared at him and he just laughed.
"I was just kidding." Ito pa mismo ang humila sa kanya papasok."Now let's go get some dinner."
