After: Chapter Sixteen – Sex Toy
25 days After
Declan pulled up in front of Ezra's house with Mary in the passenger seat beside him. Declan was able to run up stairs to quickly grab some bags of clothes for Mary to take with her before their father really lost it and now Mary was holding the suitcase on her lap as she peered out the window to Ezra's house. Declan watched his sister stare at Ezra's house as though she was staring out to space. She had this sad yet numb expression on her face like her heart had been shattered and she didn't know how to put herself back together again. "I don't even know if they'll let me in," She admitted. "If mum and dad know about me and the church knows, then they probably know too. They'll probably not even want me to take a foot inside their house." Another tear leaked down Mary's face and Declan took her hand.
"Hey whatever happens, Ezra needs to know what happened. He needs to know you were kicked out of home. They might not take you in but he at least needs to know that you and the baby are safe."
"But I don't have anywhere else to go..."
"We'll find something Mary, I'll wait here and whatever happens we'll find somewhere for you to stay for the night." Mary nodded slowly and sighed wiping the tears from her face. She opened the car door, carrying her suitcase as she lugged it up Ezra's front steps until she came to the door. She knocked on it quickly and waited patiently for the door to open. She expected Ezra's mother or father would open the door screaming in her face for her to leave, but instead Ezra answered the door himself. He smiled as soon as he saw it was her and Mary couldn't help smiling back at the sight of him. He was in his trackies and a simple t-shirt; he could look cute even in the simplest things. But his face instantly fell when he saw Mary's face that must of look tear stained and terrible, his eyes than peered down at the suitcase she was holding in her hand. Then his eyes came back up to meet hers as though he was trying to look deep into them to find out what was going on. "What's going on Mary?"
"My parents kicked me out," Mary said and a sob immediately came from her lips. At the sound Ezra immediately stepped outside the door of his house and took Mary into his arms as she cried into his shoulder. "They know –" she cried. "They know I'm pregnant and they kicked me out."
"Shhh," Ezra tried to comfort her. "It's going to be alright." And he held her tighter in his arms and Mary instantly felt safe. She smelled up his familiar scent and stood against his warm chest and felt safe even when she knew she wasn't.
"Ezra, who's at the door?" Mary heard Ezra's mother call from inside the house and Mary instantly stepped away from Ezra at the sound of her voice, scared. Ezra looked back in the direction of where his parent's voices were coming from equally as scared. If they didn't know Mary was pregnant already, they were going to know now.
"It's Mary mum!" Ezra called back and there was a slight hesitation and Mary could swear she was going to ask Ezra to send her away.
"Bring her inside Ezra!" She called and Ezra looked at Mary and Mary looked back at him. Do they know? She tried to ask with her eyes, but Ezra only shrugged. Mary took Ezra's hand as he led her into the house, her other hand gripping her suitcase's handle. Ezra led her down the main hallway until they came to the living room. Ezra's mother; a young dark haired woman with a 50's dress and cooking apron on was standing in the living room, next to her sat Ezra's father; a young Italian man with dark hair reading his newspaper. But he instantly folded it up and put it on the table next to him when Ezra and Mary entered the room. Mary and Ezra stood at the entrance of the room, while Ezra's mother and father just looked at them. There was a short silence before Ezra broke it.
