Before: Chapter two – The Night that changed it all
45 days Before
The music was blaring loudly into Farah's ears. The house seemed to rock on it's foundation from the impact. The place was swarming with people like ants to a nest but Farah, who had arrived late, could not find anyone she knew in the crowd. People were everywhere with red cups of alcohol in their hands laughing and slurring. Some staggered around bumping into walls and tripping over their own feet. Shouting could be heard and most of it didn't sound like English. Farah made her way through the place, pushing through bodies and trying hard not to trip over. She wore high black heels and a black tight dress that was snug to her figure. Her naturally straight hair fell over her shoulders and her face was dressed with a little bit of make-up. She soon found Alisha and Miranda who were dancing on the living room's coffee table. They looked clearly intoxicated and were giggling like a pack of hyenas. Something about alcohol with those two made them immediately act like strippers. People were dancing around the coffee table, mostly guys taking in the view and Farah couldn't help but mentally roll her eyes. But then a drunken guy banged into her chest spilling his drink he was holding all over her. Farah gasped about to react with some serious insults but then she saw who it was – her drunken boyfriend. Standing next to him was Liam who was obviously trying to lead him somewhere (probably the bathroom). Liam didn't drink much, so he was usually the one left to look after everyone and normally the one person that was, was Jacob. Liam mouthed Farah an embarrassed sorry as he looked over her dress. His expression changed for a moment before he pushed it away focusing on his drunken best friend. Jacob looked up to Farah and smiled one of those drunken smiles and Farah shook her head but smiled back. "Hello beautiful," he slurred.
"Hi Jacob."
"I'm sorry I ruined your dress I-" He stumbled over his words.
"It's fine."
Jacob leaned closer towards her. "I know a way we could get rid of it." His voice was slurred yet husky and the smell of alcohol rose in Farah's nose. Jacob grabbed her hand and leaned back looking at her with puppy dog eyes. Farah sighed. It wasn't like Farah didn't like having sex with Jacob, she did. She had done it so many times with him that now it just seemed normal. At a time she remembered it had been fun, sneaking off at parties to have sex in hope no one would find them. It had given her a rush. But now it was just same old, same old; Jacob took her hand and led her to the room; he struggled with a condom for a few moments while she got undressed and then they did it. It didn't last very long and it was normally over pretty quickly, but that's how it happened. So when Jacob took her hand now she let him drag her along. But for a moment Liam grabbed her arm and looked at her and she looked back at him. He seemed to be telling her something with eyes like "You don't have to do this," or "Just stay here." But Jacob was her boyfriend and she was his girlfriend, so she had to maintain some type of image that they were this amazing couple that everyone thought they were. Farah knew she didn't love him, but their relationship had never been about love. But when Liam looked into her eyes it was like he was saying that what she was doing was wrong, that she should be in love. But whoever said you had to be in love to have sex? It was just something her and Jacob did and it wasn't that big of a deal. So when Liam eventually let go of her arm and Jacob was still pulling her along, she followed him into the bedroom to have sex with him like she always did, but only this time she couldn't help feeling this odd feeling of guilt in her stomach from the way Liam had stared at her, like she deserved better, which she knew deep inside she probably did.
Far away from the party where the lights of the city shone overhead Mary and Ezra walked through the city streets hand in hand. Something about the night glistened with promise and excitement for what was to come. Mary had told her parents she was going out with Ezra tonight and would stay at a friend's afterwards and Ezra had said the same thing to his parents. So they were completely free. The night had been so amazing. Ezra had taken Mary to this five star restaurant that looked over the water and they had food that looked like artwork on a plate. Everything had been so perfect, but Mary couldn't stop thinking about what was to come. She had gone to a lingerie shop after school today and had been so embarrassed when she had walked in as though someone in her family was watching her. But the women in the store were actually a lot nicer and more helpful that she had thought they would be. Mary had told them it was her first time and they had been so excited for her. Mary felt good to be able to talk to someone about how excited she was about sharing this night with her boyfriend. Mary had no one else to talk to about it, she couldn't talk to her family or her friends because everyone had this certain opinion about what type of person Mary was and if she told them she was having sex they wouldn't think that of her anymore. Mary knew the words that would come to their head would be "slut" or "tramp" and she didn't want to see the judgement on their faces. Mary knew this was the right thing for her, she just wished she had someone to share it with. These women at the lingerie shop seemed to be the only people who could do that to. They were genuinely excited for her and genuinely wanted to help as much as they could so she would have a good night. They listened to her wants and needs and didn't make her feel like a hooker or a slut but a regular human being who just wanted to have sex with her boyfriend. Mary walked out of the shop feeling good about herself, and feeling good about her decision.
