The light at the base of the broken down altar was very dim. Matrix wasn't even sure how she was able to notice it. She was scared to death, but she walked to it. There was a trap door that was easily lifted. Beneath it a staircase spiraling downward. It was below the church, so surely if she shut the door behind her when she went down, she would be safer if Alec came after her. She had a deep dark feeling that he would be coming.

When she got to the bottom of the stairs, the light was brighter, but she could tell it was purely candle light.
There was a huge wooden door, reinforced with metal bars. There was more debris in front of the door, as if it had been falling down the stairs and piling at the threshold. Matrix had no idea once she entered the door she would move to another plane of existence.

"Well, girl, don't linger outside my door. I know you're running from something. That's the only time folks end up finding me," a woman's voice called from inside. She didn't sound old, and she didn't sound young. She did sound like it had been quite a while since she has spoken to anyone, because her voice was raspy. Unused.
The door opened by itself. Matrix was sure of it, because the woman she saw was no where near it, and had her back turned to it.

"Don't gawk at me. I'm a witch. I don't need to turn knobs to open doors," the woman told Matrix.
She was wearing a black open backed gown. Her hair was maybe blonde, maybe auburn, Matrix couldn't be sure because of the candle light. She was standing at an altar reading an extremely large book.
