The journey was long and hard on Father. He was getting too old to be going on quests searching for people. He hoped that he could locate Mother's parents. He hoped that they would know what to do. If not, surely Maize was at home working on something. He and Kinox were flying over a forest that was known for being full of elves. He hoped to find an elven town or village where he could stop and rest for a night. They had been hiding out in caves and abandoned areas where Father knew no one would look to find anyone let alone the two of them.
Finally before night fall Father spotted an area he knew from when he was a boy. It was a small elven community known as the Green Grove. He knew the elder elves, but he wasn't sure any of the younger ones would let him in let alone let him spend a night under their sanctuary. He was afraid they would be mad that he was even near them.
"Kinox, we are going to give this a try. I'm not sure what is going to happen, so please be ready to go as fast as you can if it is necessary," Father said.
"I will be alert, sir," Kinox replied.
"Good boy," Father said showing him where to land at the edge of the community.
Right away a female elf came out, followed by two bigger males Father was sure were her guards. He knew there were archers in the trees as well.
"Who are you and how did you find us?" the female asked. "And where did you get this beast?"
"I am Durham Turrett, son of Harriet. My wife is Lanaya, only daughter of Ragdar and Quinn Selco. This is Kinox, familiar of my daughter Maize. I was raised in this area by an elf named Elyris Zoth. She found me and took me into her home when my mother turned to the ways of the darkness and became a hag," Father explained. Kinox bowed down, putting his front legs on the ground and laying his head on top of them.
"Elyris Zoth?" the female elf asked. "I am Alanna Zoth. Elyris is my aunt. Come, I will take you to her. I think I remember tales of you."
"Thank you Alanna. I am grateful to you and in your debt," Father replied. He mounted Kinox and followed the elves into their sanctuary.
They walked through the center of the sanctuary to a small treehouse surrounded by a beautiful pond. Father remembered the house from when he was a child. He did not remember which elven community he grew up in. Clearly it was meant to be because the first one he saw was the right one.
