The journey to the Forest of Midnight was quick and easy from the camp Maize and Malaya had built. They had left the Omega with the dagger, the dragon's egg, the baby dragon, and Nymph. The Omega was afraid for them to send in both of the Pegasi. The Omega had given them firm instructions about what to do and what not to do when they dealt with the hag.

The entrance to the forest was dark and gloomy. Even as the sun was shining down on the girls a fog rolled through hindering their vision even of each other. Stagmar stopped and let the girls off. Malaya placed the tiara on her head and Maize clasped the necklace around her neck. It gave off a purple hue that made their vision more clear.

"What about Stagmar?" asked Malaya. "Can he come with us to get us out quickly?"

Stagmar answered before Maize had a chance. "I will remain here at the forest's edge. I cannot go inside. If you do not make it out, you will need someone to tell the Omega."

"We'll make it out," Maize said confidently. "Malaya knows where the hag lives."

"I had an idea, Maize," Malaya began. "What if we only refer to her as great grandmother or call her by her given name, not hag? Maybe we will get through to what's left of her and she will answer us."

"Do you really know where she lives?" Maize asked

Malaya looked ahead. "Follow the path to where you think it's hopeless. Then she will be there. She has a house that we will see first, but she won't be inside. She will appear when we try to gain entrance," she said, still staring ahead.

"We should have gotten Mariah. We are stronger as three," Maize mumbled.

The girls bid Stagmar goodbye and started on their journey into the forest. It was dark and quiet in an ery way, like something would jump out at any time.  It wasn't long before they found a path.

"How do we know this is the right path?" Maize inquired.

"Because it's the only path," Malaya responded.

"How do you even know all this?" Maize asked

"Father told me stories of  it when I was a little girl, trying to scare me away from ever seeking her out," Malaya explained. "I asked him tons of questions to get all the details in case I ever needed her for something insane like this."

The girls walked along in silence. The fog was getting thicker and they began to here rustling in the woods and the sound of twigs breaking. Something was following them.

"We had better speed up. Whatever is behind us, I do not want to meet," Maize commanded. The girls broke into a jog. They were still hearing noises behind them. Right when they were out of breath, the hag's house appeared before them.

Malaya looked at the house in awe. "Pretty nice place for a hag to live," she said sarcasticaly.
