i actually wrote 4,866 words and im so fucking proud of myself
"So how are things with that Jasper boy," my dad started casually. My entire family, which was just my parents and I, were eating dinner before I had to head off to Adri's house for our sleepover. The fork paused for a second midway to my mouth before I could move it again.
"What do you mean dad?" I asked, trying to stall. My mom let out a small squeal of delight before clapping her hands once and turning to me with bright eyes.
"I knew it! I've known it since the day you met Adrianna and Jasper. Me and his mother have been waiting for this day to come for far too long now!"
"Mom!" I cried, staring at her with wide eyes and my mouth agape. Unbelievable. I can't believe I'm still having boy troubles despite there being a killer/stalker on the loose. Oh right, they don't know you've been getting creepy letters from the killer.
"Don't go 'mom' on me! Now tell me everything, love, how is he?" her blue eyes sparkled and I marvelled at how similar we looked. From our ice blue eyes to our raven black hair and our pale skin. I was the spitting image of my mother. My jaw dropped down even further when I realised exactly what she was implying. My dad cleared his throat before I could answer.
"Savanna, I hardly find dinner the proper time to talk about such...unsavoury things," both my mom and I looked at each other for a moment before bursting into laughter. It felt good to laugh about such small things. "I don't like that boy Scarlett," my dad harrumphed as soon as we had sobered up. "He's been to my office more times than I can count. He's bad news."
"Dad," I sighed, but my mother hushed me before glaring at my father.
"But you're old enough to make you're own decisions and you don't need our approval," he grumbled quietly and I smiled with surprise.
"Right," I said unsurely, that was almost weirder than Lily's reaction. Glancing at the clock, I said, "I have to leave to Adri's soon. I'll be back sometime tomorrow."
"Wait, Scarlett, we have to tell you something," my mom said before I could leave the house. I turned at the doorway to look at her curiously. My dad seemed awfully reluctant to say anything as he and my mom seemed to hold a silent conversation.
"Fine," my dad mumbled. "I don't know if you've heard but we're treating the suicides as homicides," I nodded. Who wouldn't treat this as homicides when a comatose woman was found hanging whilst simultaneously being on fire? It almost sounded darkly comical, but remembering the sight of Melinda's burnt legs and melted clothes made me shiver. I am so happy Jasper didn't let me look further than her legs.
"Well," my mother began, "many of the townspeople have demanded autopsies where they discovered some suspicious results. All of the victims were found injected with worrying amounts of benzodiazepines a category of sedative-hypnotics drug...sorry I'm speaking doctor language," my mother laughed when she saw my dad and I's amused but expectant smiles. "What I'm saying is, the drugs were in very high doses. They slow the body's functions. They're basically sleeping pills and...every single victim was found with the same kind of drug at a very high dose in their bloodstream," we looked at my mom with surprise, as she struggled to speak without her professionalism coming through. That's how they've been getting the victims so easily. I shuddered with disgust, we have to stop this psycho, fast.
"Be careful, baby," my mom said and I nodded. I waved my parents goodbye and began walking to Adri's place, my duffel bag clutched tightly in my hand. It was already dark and I wasn't even half way there. I kept thinking about how someone would get those drugs, at such high amounts, without anyone noticing. Sighing, my head throbbing with confusion, I decided to stop thinking about this and clear my mind for once.
