It was bad luck. That's what they said. After surviving countless suicide attempts as well as a fucking murder attempt, Adri's death was due to bad luck. The same doctor that had treated me earlier who I couldn't remember the name of had told me that Adri was unlucky because she had been an accidental target.
When I had stabbed myself, many things had happened at once. Lily lost focus and didn't notice the police cars until it was too late. Jasper had believed that Kyle was knocked out cold and his gaze was focused on my collapse. And Adri had screamed my name, her gaze too, on me. I had distracted everyone. Everyone except Kyle. Kyle wasn't unconscious, but temporarily incapacitated. While Jasper had been distracted, Kyle had taken out his own gun hidden in his jacket and aimed it towards Jasper. In any other situation, he would've aimed perfectly, and would've successfully managed to embed a bullet into Jasper's back. But this time he was weakened. His hands were shaking. His one eye swollen shut. His hand settled on the trigger and –

The bullet whizzed past Jasper, barely missing his shoulder by a centimetre, and hit Adri in the lung. Her lung collapsed, and she lost a lot of blood. They tried to revive her but her body was weak. From her numerous near-death experiences, her most recent one being not too long ago, her body was too weak to handle so much physical stress again. Three hours later, she was pronounced dead.
It was bad luck.
A/N: I know I know I said I would post this yesterday but first of all it felt difficult to part with, and second of all I was really unsatisfied with the chapters and especially the epilogue that I had written :/ I still am but I just really want to finish the book lmao. Editing can always come later :)
