Interview: TomPowter
Author of "Nightscape-Rivers of Fire"
Author of "Robin-A Return to Life"
What can we call you (name)?
You can call me Tom ^^
Where are you from?
I'm from England, specifically the South East where we all talk rather poshly.
What is your favorite hobby?
My favourite hobby, perhaps unsurprisingly, is writing but I also hugely enjoy drawing.
Coffee or tea?
Neither! I'm not a fan of hot drinks :P
What book(s) are you reading now?
I am currently reading Brandon Sanderson's 'The Final Empire'. It's the first of a trilogy of fantasy epics. You should check it out if you haven't already!
Who are your favorite Wattpad authors?
One of my favourite Wattpad authors would have to be Adam Clayden, the author of Sigmund - The Infernal Uprising. Check out his work!
When and why did you start writing?
I started writing when I was very young purely because I wanted to create my own world and my own characters. I finished my first novel 'The Shadow of the Sun' when I was 14 and haven't stopped writing since.
Is there a specific genre that you like to read/write?
I love to read and write fantasy, be it science fiction or high epic, just give me something crazy! I also enjoy murder mystery stories as well.
What or who inspires you in your work?
Brandon Sanderson is a big inspiration but honestly, I am quite a methodical writer. I don't wait for 'inspiration', instead I formulate a story.
Can you tell us a bit about your current story and why people would want to read it?
Sure, my current story is the first in a series of 9 short fantasies aimed at a teenage audience. It is set in the world of Nightscape, where shadowy fog hiding ghostly creatures sits on the land. A boy with red eyes, James Black, has now entered this kingdom to find his sister, but conspiracy and war await him. I think fans of fantasy in general would enjoy it and I update frequently, so there isn't too much waiting about!
Is there a message for your readers in your work?
A message for the readers? Well it's only 15 chapters in so far, but a big theme in the story is being proud of who you are. James is very ashamed of his 'abnormality' at the start, but you will come to find him change eventually.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
My advice to writers would be to never stop trying. Even if an idea seems to fall flat, think up a new one. I know this doesn't work for everyone, but don't sit around 'waiting' on inspiration. Sure, it might work for some, but if you are proactive about it, you will get that idea that you've been hoping for
Is there anything else you would like add?
I hope you all continue to enjoy Rivers of Fire and continue to follow James on his journey throughout Nightscape!
