Interview: ElizabethSCraig
Author of "Progressive Dinner Deadly: A Myrtle Clover Cozy Mystery"
What can we call you (name)?
Elizabeth
Where are you from?
I'm currently in Matthews, NC, although I grew up in Anderson, SC.
What is your favorite hobby?
Reading as much as I can.
Coffee or tea?
Both! But usually coffee.
Interesting Fact?
I spent time last summer in Kenya. Briefly considered having my octogenarian protagonist take a field trip there, then nixed the idea.
What book(s) are you reading now?
"Vanished (A Callahan & McLane Mystery)" by Kendra Elliot
Who are your favorite Wattpad authors?
Margot Kinberg, Joel Canfield, Julie Musil
When and why did you start writing?
I've been writing since I was seven. I wrote because I *had* to. It doesn't seem to be a choice for me.
Is there a specific genre that you like to read/write?
Although I'll read any genre, mysteries are my favorite both to read and to write.
What or who inspires you in your work?
Mystery writer M.C. Beaton (who writes humorous mysteries) is a huge influence on me. I grew up reading Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden and there are echoes of those books in my own, too.
Can you tell us a bit about your current story and why people would want to read it?
My current Wattpad story is "Progressive Dinner Deadly." We have an octogenarian sleuth, a reluctant sidekick, a book club turned into supper club, and a murder. I give my mysteries with a humorous touch and the mysteries are puzzles to solve.
Is there a message for your readers in your work?
Don't discount the elderly.
What was your least favorite book of all time?
I hate to answer that it was "Moby Dick!" But all those chapters on harpoons... I've come to a liking/appreciation of it later in life.
What genre do you hate?
I don't think so...I read pretty much everything. I'll admit horror affects me more now than it did before I had children...but I still enjoy it.
If any character could come to life, which one would you pick?
Myrtle Clover.
Do you have a favorite quote from a book (or movie)?
"But wherever they go, and whatever happens to them on the way, in that enchanted place on the top of the Forest, a little boy and his Bear will always be playing.” A.A. Milne, "The House at Pooh Corner."
What is your favorite type of character (physical and personality traits)?
I like characters who walk that thin line between likeable and unlikeable. Because aren't they the most like we are?
Is there anything else you would like add?
