[_Natsu's POV_]

<~Flashback To One Year Ago~>

Life only dragged on. Nothing really interested me. My mother had died only a year before. That was a low time period in my life. When she died everything only dragged on more. School was boring. People were boring. Everything was boring.

I sat in class staring at the gray world outside the glass window.

If only something showed... color...

The teacher murmured on and on. He stopped... and then I heard the word. Lucy.

I looked up and saw a girl in all black. The only thing that popped out to me was the thing hidden beneath all of the darkness... Her brilliantly colored.... hair. It was the most beautiful yellow that I had ever seen. It was the only color I had seen in awhile.

She took a seat in the back of the class. I couldn't take my eyes off of her hair. I couldn't take my eyes off of her.

She never looked up once. Her eyes were glued only to her clenched fists in her lap.

Under all of the blackness her face looked... troubled.

When class had ended she left the classroom and walked to the back of the school to where the stairs to the roof were. School was still in session so I didn't know what she was thinking.

So I followed her.

She climbed the stairs all the way to the roof. She slowly walked across the gravelly rooftop. She clutched the ledge and then slowly lifted herself on to it. I heard her take a deep breath.

She was going to jump.

The only thing that showed color... was going to jump...

I can't let this happen.

I spoke.

She turned around and looked at me. Tears were streaming down her face.

She screamed at me through her wrenching sobs.

I said her name.

She looked at me.

Then took a step back.

The only color left... was slipping away.

Before I knew I was moving, I was leaning over the edge holding on to her wrist so tight that it would leave a bruise.

She wanted me to let go.

No.

I can't let the color slip away again.

No.

She is the color.

No.

I pulled her over back over the side. I fall onto my back and look up at the gray sky then back to her.

Her beautiful, golden hair.

I heard the soft tears splatter on the ground. Her tears along with mine.

I got up and put my arm on her shoulder without thinking. She shoved it away and shouted at me. I was silent. I didn't know what to do.

She shouted at me again.

I was silent.

She tried to get back up but I grabbed her arm and pulled her back down.

Soon my mouth moved on its own. I couldn't let her disappear. I had to do something.

"Let's make a deal... I-I will give you something to live for... A friend..." I touched her cheek without thinking.

She gently slapped it away.

"How about a... rival..." She said and smiled at me.

A real genuine smile. If this is what I had to do to make her stay then that's what I would do.

I nodded my head.

The color was still gone but... I had a new color to my life.

I had Lucy.
