It was getting lighter and lighter and yet she could hear the wind howling in the trees, the leaves rustling around her ankles, she heard him call her but she could not move. The leaves grew louder and louder and started to surround her, until she could no longer see but just feel the harsh tickling of the dead remains of trees against her cold ivory skin..

“Jane! Jane wake up!” She felt the covers being thrown off her and she peeled open her blue eyes to see Ginny standing over her already dressed in her school uniform. Jane let out a loud groan and tried to pull the covers back over her but Ginny stopped her “Jane we have lessons in case you’ve forgotten.”

“Ugh” she said as she swung her legs out of the bed and began getting ready for the day while Ginny waited on her own bed. One of the girls from their dorm Maeve Spencer entered the room while Jane was brushing her hair, she was very tall and had dark brown hair with fantastic brown eyes. “Hey Ginny, um Michael Corner’s waiting for you outside, he said could I ask you to come down.” Ginny looked hesitantly at Jane who simply rolled her eyes and said “What are you waiting for? Go!”

“You’re sure?”

“Yes! Now go and see your boyfriend.” Ginny give her a big smile and shouted a “Thanks.” over her shoulder as she left the dorm. Jane had finished braiding her hair and was now putting on her shoes “I’m sorry about what happened to Cedric, it must have been really hard for you.” Maeve said picking up her bag. Jane looked at her for a second shocked that someone apart from her friends actually had sympathy for her and didn’t believe that she was the one Cedric had cheated with. Maeve looked back at her with a worried expression “What did I say?”

“Oh nothing bad at all, that was really nice actually” Jane said which put a smile on Maeve’s face “You’re actually the first person apart from my friends to say that.”

“Oh well that’s ok.” She said with a smile. “Do you want to go and um get some breakfast?” Jane suggested. “Yeah that’d be great.” Maeve said and the two girls made their way down the stairs.

As they made their way down to the great hall Jane learned that Maeve was a muggleborn and really wanted a top job in the ministry and had never had a boyfriend when Jane asked why she simply replied “I don’t have time for one, my school work means a lot to me.” As they reached the great hall they were stopped by Jane’s brother and his so called friends. “Morning Jane.”

“Good morning Draco.” she said with a tired expression. “That’s not a very nice way to talk to your brother.” Pansy butted in with a sneer. “Surely he can decide that for himself.” Maeve said with a glare at Pansy, who looked as if she’d been slapped in the face. Jane let out a laugh which earned her a glare from her brother “Who’s this?” he said eyeing Maeve. “This is my friend Maeve.”

“So you’re now hanging around with blood traitors and mudbloods.” He said to her cruelly and Maeve couldn’t help but look hurt. “No I’m hanging out with my friends, maybe if you had any you’d understand.” Jane said spitefully to Draco who just stood speechless as Jane and Maeve pushed past them. “Sorry about him, he’s well . . . You saw” she said as they sat down.

“Don’t worry about it, I’ve been called worse.”

“Really?” Jane said with a shocked expression. “Yeah.” Maeve said as she buttered some toast “When I first got here I had no clue what any of this was and I was scrawny and kept tripping over stuff, I was just the perfect target for bullies.” Jane felt extremely guilty knowing her brother was likely to be one of those bullies. “I’m really sorry Maeve, when did it stop?”
