The forest was darker than ever. It folded around her like a thick blanket. Yet this did not hold the comfort of cotton. It felt like barbed wire against her skin, it was as if it was squeezing her shut, it was not until she felt the prickle that she realised that the leaves were once again the ones holding her. She cried out in despair as she felt a leaf slash her cheek and felt the tear of blood tumble down her cadaverous cheek.

She awoke stone cold. She subconsciously ran her hand across her cheek to check for blood. As usual nothing lingered on her pretty cheeks. It was still dark and everyone was sound asleep. She hugged his T-shirt that she was wearing and cried softly, before muttering “Why did you have to go? I miss you so much.” His t-shirt became soaked with her woes and anger and her depression kept her up for the rest of the night, for which she was glad as she despised that forest, despised it more than even her greatest fears.

‘It’s extraordinary to me how they can just get on with their normal lives’ Jane thought to herself as she watched everyone in the great hall chat merrily over scrambled eggs and toast, even her two friends were having a conversation about something trivial and meaningless. She looked up at the staff table and looked at Umbridge with strong distaste, until she realised Cormac was once again looking at her. Once he realised she knew of his long glances, he quickly turned back to his friends, in order to keep his image in tact. Jane turned slowly back to her friends who had moved onto something a little more important “We have our first lesson with Umbridge today.” Maeve said to the other two.

“Great.” Ginny said sarcastically “There’s just something about her I don’t like” she continued “maybe its all the pink.” She joked while Maeve laughed. Jane simply stared back at Umbridge before turning to the other two and saying gravely “I don’t trust her.”

“Why?” Maeve asked curiously.

“My dad trusts her and I never trust anyone he does.”

Their defence against the dark arts lesson was their first period of the day, which they shared with the Ravenclaws. As they made their way in Jane felt an immediate feeling of uneasiness, she had hated these lessons last year and knew she would hate them this year. Umbridge entered the room with a sickly sweet smile and began with a little speech before setting them on a menial task to which Jane and Ginny exchanged surprised glances. Jane opened her book but her brain soon switched off and she thought about thing she did not wish to think about but could not help it, Cedric forever plagued her mind. She wondered, as she stared blankly at the meaningless words, whether she could ever be happy and whether she could ever forget him. No. Was her answer. The time ticked slowly and by the time the bell rang, everyone practically sprinted out of the door, Jane was hoping to be one of them but Umbridge called out “Miss Malfoy a word please.” She begrudgingly turned to her and walked slowly towards her. “Yes professor?” she said with her most fictious voice
