Chapter 16

I woke up, still in the same chair in the hospital. I had been sitting in that chair for what felt like forever. Cole and I had been in the hospital since the ambulance came and got Scarlett and brought us all here.

Cole looked over at me and said, "Kaylee, do you think she will be okay?". I couldn't handle it anymore. I was worried. I didn't know what was wrong with her.

That's when it hit me, what if it had something to do with the baby?

I started crying and Cole pulled me over to him and let me cry on him. Although Cole and I ended badly, we were always there for each other. After all, we still cared for each other.

I probably cried for another hour before the doctor finally came out and said, "is Kaylee and Cole here?"

We both stood up and I wiped off my eyes, wiping away all the tears. We followed the doctor to a room, where we sat down in some chairs again.

"I don't know how to tell you all this, but the baby was lost. Scarlett had a miscarriage", the doctor told us.

I started crying some more, then Cole asked the doctor, "What about Scarlett?".

The doctor looked at us and said, "shes alive, but she is not aware what happened, and she is also not aware that she had a miscarriage" then he gave us a stern look and continued, "Scarlett is very fragile right now because we have her on some medications. I strongly suggest that you not tell her about the baby for a few days"

Cole and I both agreed to not say anything and then he let us in to see Scarlett.

When we walked into the room, it was pretty much empty. It wasn't how most people would imagine a hospital room. It didn't have flowers, or pictures on the walls.

All it had was a bunch of machines that were beep, beep, beeping. It had a bed, which Scarlett was laying on, and it had a couch.

They had her hooked up to so many machines... I couldn't believe it. She had like 3 I.V's. After the doctor left the room, Cole and I sat down beside Scarlett.

That's when she woke up, and looked at us both and asked, "what happened?"

We looked at her, and Cole gave me this scared look. I knew that he didn't know what to say, so I looked her in the eyes and said, "You passed out. The doctors said that you haven't been eating enough for you and the baby. So the baby was pretty much eating everything, which made you pass out."

I hated lying to her. I never lied to her. So, I hated to do it now.

Cole's parents showed up and took him home after a few hours of sitting in her room. So, I decided to call Aiden to come and pick me up.

I walked out of Scarlett's hospital room and shut the door. I left it open a crack so I could be sure that I would be aware if something happened to Scarlett.

After Aiden picked up the phone, I told him, "Scarlett had a miscarriage" and he said that he was so sorry and that he would leave to come and get me.

I hung up the phone and walked back in to Scarlett. That's when she looked at me again and said, "I lost my baby?". She had tears in her eyes.

I told her yes, and she started bawling.

That's when all the machines started beeping out of control and a bunch of doctors rushed in.

Then, all the machines stopped beeping. Her heart stopped.

They tried to resuscitate her, but it didn't work. She was gone, and it was all my fault. If I would have shut the door all the way this wouldn't have happened.
