"Why call me?" Jael stood behind Giavanna sewing the back of her dress back together. "I am more than sure your mother or sister could have done this." She held the needle with her teeth as she pulled the rest of the thread to tighten what she had just sowed.
Jael repeated this a few times as Giavanna just stood in silence studying the imperfections of the marble floor. "I am sorry." She finally took a breath and said.
"For what exactly?" Jael knew what was she was referring to, but just wanted to hear her say it. "Trying to kill Jo.... OW!" Jael smirked as she let a harsh breath out through her nose as if to represent a laugh.
"Sorry but you moved. I told you that if you really wanted me to fix your dress I would end up stabbing you..." Giavanna just let out a faint sigh as she gave a court nod.
Silence filling the room, making the air thick and uncomfortable. " Trust." Giavanna's word broke through the thickened air and left both her father and Jael to their own assumptions.
Until minutes later, she turned around causing Jael to frustratingly stop. She turned to her father and asked for some privacy. Which in turn caused him to look at Jael.
Who slowly put the needle and thread down "I am putting the weapons down..." She spoke sarcastically, crossing her arms as he walked out. ".. Pfft like I need a weapon to kill..." She whispered under her breath which Angelo heard but out of respect for his daughter urging him out he did nothing.
"I could have gotten my mother, or sister, or even your mother to come in here and fix my dress. But I do not need to apologize to any of them, I do not need to them to know that they have my trust."
Jael twisted her mouth a moment as she looked at Giavanna with squinted eyes. "Your trust? What does that mean exactly?" She spun Giavanna back around, picked up the needle and thread once more and continued fixing the dress.
"It means I will do everything within my power to protect Jo, or any other Zwon for that matter. Even Ellie." Jael froze once she had mentioned her daughter, stepping back and looking away.
Her daughter and her husband were sore spots for her, and she could not express how much she despised Giavanna in this moment for bringing her up. "Do you remember when you crashed my party after fixing Jo's car?"
"Believe it or not, it was not a celebratory one. In fact it was not even a party at all." Giavanna looked down and held her breath trying to fight herself so she would not go without saying this. "It was a fundraiser to pay off Jo's medical bills. I knew your family had the money and honestly so did mine; but my father would not let me help you with his money, and you should not have to pay for something I caused."
Jael looks at her in suspicion. "I had set up a payment plan the day after he was checked into the hospital."Giavanna giggled for a split moment. "I actually finished paying it off a week before I was told I would be marrying Jo." Then that uncomfortable silence returned leaving the ladies to ether stare at the floor or each other.
They let the moments tick by before Jael started to fix Giavanna's wedding dress again. "I need some time to...process all of this..." Was all she gave Giavanna, who replied with a nod.
"I ripped the dress just so we could talk." Giavanna finally said after sometime had passed. Jael smiled and let a faint giggle escape from her "I know."
Two months had passed since I had made the fateful call to Jael and since then we both felt as though we were running in circles. We would find something out regarding Jo only to figure out that it set us back three weeks.
