Light rays of sunshine shone in through the window next to my bed. I opened my eyes half expecting to be back in my old bedroom, with my mom still passed out downstairs.  But I found myself still right where I wanted to be. In the Curtis brothers guest bedroom. I sat up and looked at the watch that laid on the side table. It was 7:13 in the morning and I didn't hear anyone outside my door, so I assumed that everyone was still asleep.

I walked out of my bedroom and into the kitchen. Wanting to thank the Curtis's for letting me stay here, I decided to make so breakfast. My mom thought that learning to cook was always a good asset to acquire. I got out a carton of eggs and started cracking them one by one into a bowl. I suspected that the rest of the gang would come over also, so I made extra for them. While the eggs cooked, I started to fry some bacon also. The smell of bacon and eggs filled the entire house making it smell delicious. I hummed as I stirred the eggs around.

Suddenly, I felt someone wrap their arms around me and lift me up. "Amber!" Sodapop yelled spinning me around. "Hows my kid sister doing today?" He asked putting me down.

"Real good Soda," I said smiling at him. Soda made a goofy face which made me chuckle.

"I'm so glad I have a little sister." Soda said putting his hands on his hips. "I wanted one ever since I was little."

"You got Pony," I said contradicting him.

"Yeah, he's alright I guess." Soda and I broke into laughter.

Sodapop leaned sideways to take a peek at what was cooking. "I love bacon!" He yelled running over to the plate of bacon I had sitting by the stove.

I jumped in front of him facing the counter to protect the bacon. "Not yet!" I told him all motherly like. Soda leaned to my right and kissed my cheek. When I turned to the right to look at him, he leaned to the left and took a piece of bacon. "You sly dog.." I said scolding him.

He popped the bacon in his mouth, turned to look back and shrugged. All while smiling his goofy, hilarious smile. "I try." Soda said half bowing.

Soda sat down at the table to gnaw on his strip of bacon as Darry walked in. "Smells good Soda." He said before stopping and seeing me cooking instead of Soda. "Hey Amber, I didn't know yous' was a cook!" He said coming over to look at the food.

"You guys can make yourselves some toast while I'm still cooking," I said turning off the stove and pouring the cheese into the eggs. Darry came around me and tried to sneak a piece of bacon, but wasn't very sneaky. "Darry!" I would have thought Sodapop of these manners, but not you!" I said playfully turning towards him. Darry laughed and shrugged just as Soda had done. To my surprise, that was the first time I had seen Darry laugh.

I walked the big bowl of scrambled eggs to the table as I heard the rest of the gang coming up the front walk. Pony past me and sat at the table, and you know what he was holding? A PIECE OF BACON! "All you Curtis boys are the same.." I said finally bringing the plate of bacon over to the table. The rest of the gang sat down and they all shoveled food into their mouths. I wasn't hungry, but if I was, I would be out of luck. Soda went to go see what was playing on the TV and Steve got up and went to the fridge to get the chocolate milk. Steve smiled at me really big even though he had food all over his face.  I thought it was pretty funny.

I cleared empty dishes from the table as Steve came back from the fridge with the carton in one hand, and a big hunk of chocolate cake. No plate or nothing.  Then a chain reaction started. Two-Bit pushed his chair back trying to stand up, pushing Steve and making him drop the hunk of cake. He looked in shock up at Darry. "Aw man, I'm really sorry.."

Darry just sat back and smiled. I wasn't really paying attention because I was still scraping bits of food off of plates. "Ponyboy, clean that up." Darry sighed. Steve got out of the way and Ponyboy tried walking over to get the dish rag, but when he was behind me, I turned causing him to stumble. I tried to reach out to grab him but lost my balance. Pony slipped on the hunk of cake still on the ground and I fell with him... right on top of him.

The gang started hootin' and hollerin' and Sodapop came back in to see what the racket was all about. Soda's eyes went wide and he looked kind of mad and kind of surprised. "What the hell are you doing to my kid sister, Pony?!"

Pony got up off me and turned the same red he did last night when he met me. Sodapop came over and helped me up while the rest of the gang still laughed and hollered. "Shut up ya' bunch" He yelled at the gang over his shoulder. "You alright?" He whispered to me. I nodded and he smiled. His smile then went instantly back to a stern frown as he walked over to Ponyboy. "You ever try anything on my kid sister, I'll skin ya'!" Soda said looking him straight in the eyes and walking away. We could all tell he was saying this in a joking matter because I wasn't really his kid sister, but buried underneath the joke was truth.

The gang went back to eating and Ponyboy came up to me. "You okay? I didn't hurt ya too much did I?" He asked with sweet soft worried eyes and a smooth like butter voice.

"No, I'm tuff Pony, nothing's gonna hurt me. Especially not you." we exchanged smiles and I went back to cleaning up the dishes.

I faced the sink, rinsing things off when Dally put his hands around my waist. "Put those dishes down Cinderella! We're going shopping so you got clothes to wear."

I smiled at the thought of Dally and I turned around to not only see a very attractive Dallas Winston but in the corner of my eye, I could see a very mad Ponyboy.
