Ophelia walked through the hallway and into her first class, chemistry. She strut through the door and took her rightful place in the back right corner. She threw her purse under her metal desk that was clearly falling apart after years of wear from the past students of Anchor View High. Ms. Stratton's bulky build covered the majority of the chalkboard, that read "P-- Assignment". Ophelia shifted in her desk, trying to achieve a better angle to read the hidden message. She jumped back into her chair as Ms. Stratton's hefty voice filled the small classroom.
"Today we have a new student, everyone please welcome Rhea Cassiel to Anchor View." I felt myself tense and tried to hide my fingernails as they lengthened. Shit.
She walked into the classroom and smiled. Her long lavender hair was slightly curled and fell down her back. She had on a white spaghetti strap dress that hung to her knees and white ankle boots. Even her bright blue eyes were smiling.
Ophelia grimaced. You have got to be kidding me.
"Rhea why don't you tell us a little about yourself." Ms. Stratton said uninterested.
"Um well, there isn't really much to tell. I'm from Florida, I just moved here. I really love to paint, it's my passion." God, even her freaking voice annoyed the crap about me.
"Yeah well you sit over there in that chair." Ms. Stratton pointed in no specific direction at all so Rhea just took a seat in the closest empty chair which was right at the front. Of course.
"We have a group project due in three weeks from today. It is 10% of your overall semester grade." You could hear the class collectively groand but she droned on anyways. "I will be pairing you up with a partner." Another groan. "I will also hand out the packet that has all of the instructions for the project at the end of class."
Ms. Stratton began to call our names and the person that we were going to be paired up to.
Danny and Meagan.
John and Alice.
Sarah and Parker.
Rhea and Ophelia.
Ophelia jumped from her desk.
"Um excuse me but no." Ophelia spat out, glaring at the back of Rhea's head.
Ms. Stratton looked up from her paper.
"Excuse me Ms. Rose?"
"You heard me, I am not being paired up with her."
"You will do as you are told or you and I are going to have a nice little talk about how you will fail a project worth ten percent of your grade. Now sit down."
Ophelia shut her mouth and sit down. She might not liked school but she still prided herself on her good grades.
The bell rang and Ophelia sprung up from her desk and out of the classroom door as fast as she could. Rhea quickly followed behind her and caught her just in time, she reached for her purse and held on, jerking Ophelia back.
"Hi I'm Rhea." Her voice was high and angelic like.
"I know who you are." Ophelia rolled her eyes as she took her purse from Rhea's hands.
"You..You do?" She had concern on her face.
"Kai.. You saved my best friends life." She almost choked on her words. She didn't want to admit that maybe Rhea did save his life.
Rhea immediately pulled Ophelia outside to the courtyard, she pulled her close as Ophelia tried to jerk away.
"I know you don't like me and I know we shouldn't even really be talking but you and I both know that we need to keep up images. So we need to do this project, we need to do it peacefully, and then we will get out of each other's hair and we will never have to see each other again."
Ophelia looked away frowning. Well she was right, and it was only three weeks. Ophelia would suck it up for three weeks. But that's it.
Ophelia looked back at Rhea.
"Fine, but we only talk when it pertains to the project and nothing else." Ophelia went to walk away but stopped and turned back to look at Rhea.
"Oh and one more thing. Stay away from my best friend." With that, Ophelia walked away and went to her next class.
