Chapter 20

~Helena’s pov~ 

I watched silently as I watched him dash away. I felt my heart break quietly. A tear slid down my face but I made no sound. I should have seen this coming. Why would someone like him ever want a mate like me. I felt the pain, harsher this time. I dropped to the floor crutching my heart as I let out excruciating whines. I was never born deaf, nor was it an accident that broke this tragic upon me. It’s was a curse. It dated all the way back to the 1300. My family, the Romanov, refused to join forces with King Caron and therefore was cursed. The first newborn, me, was to be born deaf with violent eyes, making everyone known of my difference. Everywhere I went, people ran away. I was a monster in their eyes. As years passed by, more and more of my family members were killed off by King Caron’s follower’s. The last of them died off with my family as they got into a huge war. I’m the only one left. I needed my mate to accept me in order for the curse to be lifted but knowing how I look to eyes made me give up all hope of ever having the curse lifted. 

~Daniel’s pov~ 

I paced around the house wondering if I was making a huge mistake. I mean after all, she is still my mate. “No!” I shouted at myself. “She will never be your mate. You already denied her once, what makes you think that she would stick around for you to do it the second time?” I looked down on myself, feeling the shame kicking in. “Am I really making a mistake?” I asked myself as I squeezed my hand tight trying to feel her soft skin again.  I closed my eyes for a moment and breathed in deeply, her scent lingering in the air.  

~Luna’s pov~ 

I listened as I heard thumps coming up the stairs and mumbling. I laughed as I realized it was just Jayden and Luke. Teasingly I said, “Awee, do you guys miss me that much that you have to rush up here to see me?” 

Luke was the first to reply. “Oh course we missed you! Come here and join our bear hug!” He didn’t give me a choice so I ended up being scooped up into their tight bear hug. 

I gasped as they squeezed tighter. “Ca-can’t breathe you guys! Let me goo. ARGH.” 

They dropped me and caught me before I hit the floor. “We’re sorry,” They mumbled. “We just missed you a lot and wanted to make sure that you were safe.”  

Jayden stepped closer and gave me a check up. He looked me up and down making sure there was nothing wrong with me. Even a small scratch couldn’t go unnoticed from his eyes. He held up my arm gently. “Why do you have a scratch here?” 

I stared at it for a moment, having no clue how I got the scratch. I squinted at the scratch hoping that would jog my memory. I blinked as I realized it must have been from that mysterious person. I thought it over. Should I really tell them? It could put their lives at stake but on the other hand, they are my mate. They have the right to know. I fumbled with my words, trying to find the right words. “When I was sleeping downstairs on the couch, someone broke into the house. I couldn’t manage to get a clear image of the person but his voice sounded raspy. He said that I better come with him or I will put everyone’s lives in danger.” I looked down feeling my eyes swell with tears. I quivered a little. “I don’t think I can live with myself if someone else dies because of my poor decision. He said he would be back in a week. I-I’m scared.” I said before I sat down on the hard floor, releasing my tears. Luke and Jayden wrapped their arms around me protectively. 

Luke cooed to me. “Shh shh. Don’t cry darling. Everyone is fighting for you because you’re the last hope of all of us. If you risk yourself and the babies, I don’t think anyone could live. We’ll be around you 24/7, never hide anything from us. You know we both love you to death but we can’t always keep you safe if we don’t know what’s going on. Okay?”
