Chapter Two

The minute the word 'mate' slipped through his lips, I let out a squeal and did a small but noticeable jump.

I can't believe I actually found him. I immediately jumped into his arms, wrapping mine around his neck. I guess I caught him off guard as he made what sounded like a surprised grunt and took a step back stumbling.

I can't believe it. Finally, my life will turn towards the better. I'll finally have someone to care for me, protect me, act possessive towards me, play with me, make me smile, enjoy my company and most importantly love me.

I pulled back, surprisingly he didn't hug me back. I shrugged those thoughts away, they were the minor details. I looked at him eye to eye, getting lost once again feeling a small soft smile tug on the corners of my lips.

"Hi" I said in a soft whisper.

He didn't respond though, he pushed me back; gently yet firmly took ahold of my hand and led me towards the exit. I quietly obliged, still in my own happy bubble.

He led me to a black slick car; I wasn't really into cars so I had no idea what kind it was, but from the looks of it I knew it was insanely expensive.

He jabbed his hands into his pocket and pulled out the key unlocking the car. Letting go of my hand he walked around towards the driver's side, opened his door and slid in.

"Huh, so chivalry really doesn't exist anymore" I muttered sarcastically under my breath.

Once I was seated, we were off at a speed limit that will probably either land us in jail or at deaths door, which ever comes first.

Five minutes into the car ride, other than the word 'mate' he hasn't spoken. Guess he wasn't a talker, well that's good seeing as I sure was; so I decided to start the conversation.

"So, my name's Ariel Collins." I said as I turned to look at him. All he did was stare ahead.

"What's your name?" I decided to ask since he didn't really get the hint when I gave him mine.

"Thane Grey" He grunted out.

"Gosh, why do you sound like that was the most difficult thing to say; I only asked for your name dude."

The only response I got was his already clenched jaw clenching more, if possible.

"So you're an Alpha?" I tried again, really wanting to keep the conversation going.

And being the silent dude he is, all he did was nod.

"Do you have aphasia?" I couldn't help but ask? A girl at the orphanage had aphasia; someone I will never forget. She was treated pretty badly, you'd think that us outcasts would stick together. Nope! She was pretty low in the social ladder there, but I was lower.

"What?" he quickly glanced my way, his face showed looks of shock, disbelief and maybe amusement?

"It's just that the only time I've heard you talk was when you called me mate, which was a whisper and when you grunted out your name. Other than that you seem to avoid talking. I'm just asking if talking is a difficult challenge for you. Not in a disrespectful way, 'cause I heard that Alphas can be really arrogant, cocky and sensitive when it comes to their pride, ego or being weak. Not that I'm calling you weak just-"

"You're rambling" he simply stated.

"Ah so you don't have Aphasia! 'Cause, (a) you managed to form a sentence and (b) you managed to speak normally." I exclaimed.

"You know, so far in the past ten minutes you managed to insult me at least eight times" He stated.

"I tend to do that, don't take it personally and I'm pretty sure that it wasn't eight times."
