When the two choppers had landed on the clearing, and those villagers who were running for their dear lives had returned after discovering that the choppers belonged to the police. The whole panorama was now fully lit by the sun's rays. Everything was now clearly visible.

There were four men in police uniform in the first chopper and the other one had five occupants, two cops and three civilians. They had cameras and mikes with them and I just guessed they were from the national broadcasting station. They had come to capture the breaking news. I just chuckled, looking at them.

I was standing opposite to the main entrance of the mall. Looking at the approaching men. Everyone's eyes was on them as they were making their way towards me. Melinda came and stood next to me,capturing many peoples' attention in the process. One of the cops motioned to the media guys to go and interview the injured and other people whilst they have a short private meeting with me. As they move closer to us I recognized Brian. He was now so different from the previous time we met. He had a moustache and a bit stout, showing he was feeding himself. His job was paying him well, and he seemed to be enjoying himself in his field of expertise.

Brian was an old friend of mine in high school. His demeanor at school had always showed that either he was going to become an army or police personnel. He was strict when it becomes to following the schools' rules and regulations. He was unwavering and it earned him the opportunity to become our schools' head prefect. I wasn't his opposite though, but I wasn't like him. His strong desire and determination has drove him to become vice to the man he was now walking with.

His superior was a huge ebony man with a well trimmed beard hung on a very serious face. By looking at him,I could tell he wasn't the smiling type. He held a stone sculptor face, so frigid and unwelcoming. His big white eyes were fixed on Melinda as they strode towards us.

Before we could greet each other,I heard the sound of choppers descending to the valley towards the shopping mall. All our eyes turned to the direction of the incoming artificial birds. The commander then asked me if I had called the army too but I told him nope, they were choppers from Medicare medical aid society. This brought a slight smile on his face. It was just there for a few seconds before it disappeared and that stone cold appearance replaced it. He returned his piercing eyes on Melinda, making her so nervous.

I looked beyond Brian's shoulders and saw the media guys leaning on Bastion's stretcher, with their cameras and mikes to his face. He seemed not interested in sharing his side of the story. I removed my gaze and looked at Brian.

Brian was smiling at me all this while. He held a jocund appearance as he prepared himself to greet us. He was turned aback by the way I was looking. A blood bathed figure with bruises all over. They both were looking at us with surprised looks. Melinda too had blood on her clothes but with few bruises on her face.

We greeted each other and walked a stone's throw distance away from the people so we could talk privately. The commander then asked if it was right to discuss with Melinda around. I told him it was fine since I was with her from the beginning of the whole disaster. He then slightly eased his gaze on her and her nervousness temporarily dissipated.

Melinda held a face that showed her sudden disliking of the commander,to the point that I ended up nudging her on the back. She changed but she was either looking at me or at Brian until the end of our conversation. She permanently avoided the commander's constant gaze. He acted like myself and Brian were oblivious to his immediate surroundings. Like we were not there. It became so obvious that he was interested in Melinda. Men are pigs,I remembered. They are never satiated even if their wives are generous in the bedroom. Most of them are driven by lust and not love.

Her animosity to the police chief left me wondering what was that she loathed on the man. Was it his frigid face or his piercing and talking gaze towards her. He looked more like lusting over her by the way he looked at her. His eyes were like saying to her,'I want to know more about you, sweetness.'
